Welcome to Conversations with Hikinu,

Author and creator.

Thank you for taking this journey with me of self-love and learning how to live more mindfully one day at a time.

Are you ready to create the life that you want?

So grab your smoothie or cup of tea and join the conversation.

Let's go.

Hello there,

Welcome to episode 124.

So hope all is well today,

I'm recording this on what we observe as Mother's Day.

But for those who are mothers,

As you know,

Every day is a day to celebrate.

Have my fan in the background.

It's been kind of warm around here and then all of a sudden it turned a little bit chilly.

So I still don't want to turn my fan on because I have hot flashes sometimes.

So I like to keep the air circulating.

On today's podcast,

We are going to talk about mastering the mind.

So grab your smoothie or cup of tea and join the conversation.

Let's go.

Hey there.

So yes,

Here on Conversations with Hikinu,

We're always focused on mindful living one day at a time.

And so as I record this podcast,

I got all these different noises going on in the background.

I got my printer just went off,

Which it kind of scared me.

I got some loud car that's going up the road.

And of course,

My fan is going in the background.

This is real life,

I'm telling you.

When I first started podcasting,

I tried my best to try to tune out as much as possible.

But there really isn't real life.

You know,

I like to be connected to people who are just,

You know,

Being themselves and knowing everything may not or cannot be perfect,

But you just do your best and flow with it.

And that's all that matters.

And so we're going to talk about mastering the mind.

Now,

I know you've heard all the different sayings about the mind mindset,

You know,

Wasting time,

All the things.

And you may have,

You know,

Connected to all the different resources to try to,

You know,

Transform your mind or retrain your brain and do all the things.

But let me tell you,

This is a continual process.

There's no magic pill to master your mind.

Okay,

I'm sorry to,

You know,

Bust your bubble.

But there's no magic pill,

You're going to always have something going on in your brain.

Okay,

It doesn't mean that you have to give in to everything that you observe.

Just like with meditation,

Meditation is not the magic pill.

It's a way to help you be more mindful every day.

But again,

When if you are just starting to meditate or you've been meditating for a while now,

You know that your mind will travel somewhere.

But the thing is,

What's the most powerful part is when you become aware of it,

When you become aware that your mind has dwindled off on what you're going to cook later on or on last night's movie that you watched or a tournament,

Whenever we had a tournament this weekend,

My son and husband,

They participated in their first tournament martial arts tournament.

So whatever you your mind goes to,

When you become aware that it has traveled down that road,

You can do one of two things.

You can A,

Continue down that little road and just going off on that little tangent,

A little thought tangent.

Or you can say,

Okay,

Ah,

Yeah,

I know that.

I remember that.

Okay,

But we're going to get back to focusing on our breathing.

And so when you do that,

You need to come at a place of kindness.

You know,

Just watch how you talk to yourself.

Because the way you treat yourself,

It shows.

If you are constantly,

You know,

Bad mouthing yourself,

The conversations that you have with yourself,

If they are continually continuously rude or just negative,

You know,

It's going to show it's going to show on your face,

It's going to show on the energy that you have with different things and so we need to start encouraging ourselves and being more kind with ourselves.

And so I have this quote that I actually came up with.

And so the biggest part of the quote is,

There isn't an end all.

Because it's a continual journey.

But if you're aiming for that,

You'll see the fruit,

You'll see the difference,

You'll see what happens next.

It'll become more positive.

Your day to day will be much brighter.

A lot of times we can get so stuck in what we didn't accomplish.

I'll tell you,

I am one of the queens of schedules.

I like to use spreadsheets and I have a little system where I can calculate different things and I like to do that too just to see where my time is really going and just a reminder of what I need to focus on.

I used to be very militant about my schedules.

But as I've gotten older,

I've learned that it's okay for things to be adjusted.

It's okay to pivot if needed.

I mean,

I don't know,

Am I talking to myself here or do you agree?

Do you believe that it's okay to switch things up a bit or pivot?

Let me tell you one thing is if you don't stop mulling over the past and just really start enjoying and embracing what's right in front of you,

Then you're going to remain stuck.

You're going to remain stagnant.

You're going to remain in a stress response.

We talked about last week about even being in a stress response when it comes to food.

A lot of times when you are talking down to yourself and you're looking at yourself in a negative light,

It can affect your food.

We don't realize that,

But every life dimension is connected.

And so what you have to learn is that this,

Everything that you do affects who you are and how you see yourself and how you,

And your perspective on the things in your life.

And so the job is to learn how to be all in.

Whatever you're doing,

Be all in.

So the quote for today is mastering the mind is the greatest masterpiece.

Mastering the mind is the greatest masterpiece.

Mastering the mind is the greatest masterpiece.

And now,

As I told you before,

This isn't an end all.

You're working towards this.

And so you may not,

You may not arrive in this lifetime,

But the goal is to find a practice that you can do,

Whether it's a formal meditation,

Whether it's taking a break and just a breathe break throughout the day and just evaluating where you are and what you're doing and just re centering your focus,

Whether it's taking some yoga time or some other type of movement and really being present with your body,

Really getting in tune with yourself and really focusing.

Whatever it looks like to you,

That is part of mastering your mind because you're working towards something.

You work into a goal that's lasting.

A lot of times you pile all these things on your plate and you get all upset if things don't work together or come together the way you want them to,

Which I can understand I do that too.

But the greatest thing is learning how to transform your mind,

Learning how to be more in,

Learning that,

Okay,

What I'm doing right now,

Oh,

Did I just,

Did I just do that?

Did I just do X,

Y,

Z?

Oh,

I don't remember because what?

My mind was on something else.

But learning how to really think about being intentional at every moment throughout the day,

Even when you get busy,

Taking a pause,

Even if it's just clicking,

When you're clicking or waiting,

If your computer is buffering,

You're thinking about,

Okay,

I'm right here.

I got all these things to do.

I'm going to take this deep breath while my computer is buffering and I'm here.

It can be something very subtle,

Just something like that.

But knowing that you're not just moving on autopilot,

You may like to snack at your desk,

But really taking time to chew your food up,

Not just cramming all the stuff in your face as you are trying to meet your deadline.

But it's being intentional about everything that you're doing,

Being present,

Being aware,

Being all in.

That's mastering the mind.

It's the greatest masterpiece.

Now today we don't have a formal meditation set for today.

Most of my podcasts from episode 100 up through this point are,

There is some form of meditation towards the end.

Great news,

I am now on Insight Timer.

I have started adding some meditations to Insight Timer and also my previous podcast,

I will be breaking apart the meditation and it'll be a more full meditation to add to Insight Timer as well.

If you're not familiar with Insight Timer,

It's a place where meditation teachers,

Yoga instructors,

Different types of those that are in that mindfulness realm.

They post their meditations,

Talks,

Podcasts,

Or courses.

I am a meditation teacher on there.

Just started my account not too long ago,

So I started uploading some things.

I'll provide a link in the show notes and if you want to follow me there.

If you've found anything that I've stated in my podcast or anywhere you've seen me online,

If you've found the information helpful,

You can leave a donation.

It's just a donation of thanks.

It helps me with the cost of my podcast.

It's not free to host my podcast and just helping to further along my business as well.

What we're going to do as we bring this podcast to an end,

We're just going to take a few deep breaths and I want you to have a great day.

Make it great.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

One more time.

Breathe in.

And breathe out.

For the next few moments,

I want you to notice what you're thinking about.

Without judgment.

I want you to think about one thing that you can be grateful for.

And with that note,

I want you to redirect your focus with gratitude and continue on with your day or prepare for bed.

Until next time,

Learn to love and learn to serve.

Bye for now.

Hey there.

So if you've enjoyed this episode,
