Hello,

This is Carrie.

Now you could be listening to this to help you better understand yourself or another person or you could be listening to this when you're in the car or in class or with a group or even in bed.

But I am here to support you and understanding about the way that you feel because feelings can be very confusing.

And so relax.

Listen.

Maybe take in a few deep belly breaths and just let any emotions go.

So you can feel calmer,

More clear minded and ready to listen.

So I'm sure you know about the feeling,

The emotion of when you just want to be silly.

Silly in the way where you feel you want to make a funny,

Goofy face.

We've all done it.

We can wear a funny,

Silly,

Goofy hat.

We could play dress up or pretend.

But it feels great to just allow ourself to be silly.

Can you think of a time when you were so silly that you just laughed and laughed and laughed?

And your heart was full of joy and excitement and pleasure.

It feels great to be silly,

Doesn't it?

I think so,

And I hope you do too.

Now we all know how it feels to be disappointed.

Maybe disappointed when plans were made so long ago and then it comes to that day and it doesn't work out.

Maybe you had a play date and your friend got sick and so you're disappointed.

Maybe you got sick and you couldn't play with your friend so you got disappointed.

Can you think of a time you got disappointed?

It's not a fun feeling,

Is it?

But everyone experiences disappointments in life.

It's how we react,

How we respond and behave that matters when we are faced with disappointment.

Because life is full of choices.

And so I hope the next time you get disappointed,

You make a choice that makes you feel good.

A healthy choice,

A happy choice.

And speaking of happy,

Oh how great it feels to be happy.

To have that big smile on your face.

To where your mood is soaring so high and your heart is full of happiness,

Joy and laughter.

You're happy to be alive.

You're happy to be with friends or family.

You're happy with something that you achieved or accomplished.

You're happy when you cooperate or you show kindness to another person.

Can you remember a time when you were so happy?

It feels good to be happy,

Doesn't it?

It does indeed.

And now angry.

We all get angry.

Everyone does.

Even animals get angry.

And it doesn't feel good to be angry,

Does it?

At times it can feel like a volcano inside,

Ready to erupt.

And we might want to shout or roar or growl or stomp on the floor.

But hey,

At times your anger,

It's valid.

It's a real emotion.

And so when you're feeling anger,

It's best to say it out loud,

I am angry.

And it's good if a person validates that emotion.

Even though it might seem negative,

It is a positive emotion.

Because anger can move you into action.

An action that is positive.

Like when we get angry,

When we're trying to do a certain task or build something.

Maybe we need to ask for help,

And that can help the anger go away.

Or maybe we need to walk away,

Take a few deep breaths and clear our mind.

That can help take the anger away.

But anger,

It's normal.

It's natural.

Anger is an emotion.

Now thankful.

Oh,

There are so many times in life where it is important to be thankful.

To feel thankful.

And in our world today,

So many people take it for granted.

We should be thankful when someone helps us.

We should be thankful when someone is kind to us.

We should be thankful when someone is compassionate or understanding.

We should be thankful when someone shows us cooperation or teaches us something new.

We should be thankful when someone fixes or repairs a toy of yours that was very special.

We should be thankful when someone shows us an act of kindness.

We should be thankful that we have loving people in our lives.

We can be thankful that we have a bed to sleep in,

A warm meal to eat,

Clean water,

Even taking a shower or having a toilet.

All these little conveniences in life.

We should be thankful.

And when you're thankful,

It warms your heart like the sun.

It feels good to be thankful.

And people appreciate it when you verbally say,

Thank you.

Thank you goes a long way.

Now let's talk about frustration.

Ooh,

You can get frustrated because you can't do it all.

And at times when you feel frustrated,

You might want to cry.

You might want to give up.

You might not want to try again.

But frustration is your body sending you a message that you need to calm down.

Maybe you need to slow down.

Maybe you need to refocus and try another way.

And maybe the frustration is a signal that it's time to take a break or even a nap or maybe even go eat a snack.

But a frustration is a signal from your body telling you,

You need to take a break.

And so listen to that frustration and do something good.

Turn it around.

Now have you ever been shy?

I was when I was a kid.

When someone would say hello to me,

I would suddenly feel shy.

Instead of waving at the person or waving back at them,

I'd hide behind my mommy's skirts.

And you know what?

Being shy is okay.

It's your body's way of telling you that,

Hey,

This is something new.

This is something different.

I need to pay attention.

And so being shy is fine.

It's normal.

It's natural.

Not everyone is shy.

Some people are just so outgoing that when you're shy,

It can be a little shocking,

Can't it?

But that's okay.

The shyness never lasts forever.

And so being shy and feeling shy is just fine.

Now have you ever been bored?

I know you have.

Everyone has experienced boredom in their life.

When you're bored,

Maybe you can't make up your mind of what you want to do or where you want to go or who you want to see.

And maybe there's nothing that you really want to do.

And when you're bored,

The day just drags on and on and on.

Time can seem so slow,

Like a snail when you're bored.

And sometimes when people are bored,

They can feel a little blue inside.

And that's perfectly fine too.

Feeling bored is a natural and normal emotion.

Now have you ever felt excited?

I mean really,

Really excited where you just want to bounce like a rubber ball.

You're more excited than words.

And it's really hard for you to sit still.

You'd rather jump or play or sing or dance.

You're so excited.

And at times when we're so excited,

It can be hard to sleep.

Because we're just so excited about maybe a trip we're going to do the next day.

Or someone you're going to see.

Or maybe there's a party and you're so excited.

It can be fun to be excited,

Can't it?

Can you remember a time when you were so excited?

I bet you can.

Now have you ever felt jealous?

Jealousy is normal.

Maybe you want to play with someone and they don't want to play with you.

Maybe someone isn't taking turns fairly.

Or maybe you're jealous because the person doesn't want to spend time with you or even share with you.

Or is paying too much attention to another person and you feel left out.

Jealousy is a normal emotion and feeling.

And it's important to tell the other person how you feel.

Now it might not be the right time in that moment to tell the person how you feel.

So it might be better when you're alone with that person and express your feelings by maybe using an I statement.

For example,

I felt jealous because I thought you were giving Sandy more attention than me.

I felt jealous when my friend wasn't sharing her favorite toy with me.

But it's important to express your feelings because how you feel matter.

And people can't help you or understand you unless you communicate how you feel.

And when you communicate how you feel,

You will feel so proud of yourself.

That's a great emotion,

Isn't it?

To feel pride,

To feel so proud that I did it.

I did it.

And when you're proud,

You feel like you could just shout to the world,

Like you're on top of a mountain.

You can feel pride when you get yourself dressed all by yourself.

You can feel proud when you get a good grade on a test.

You can feel proud when you do something to help out your parents or a family member.

You can feel proud when you open the door for someone or say thank you.

Can you remember a time when you felt so proud of yourself?

It feels great,

Doesn't it?

You know,

Feelings come and feelings go all through the day.

And I know you might have a feeling when you felt anxiety.

Maybe anxiety of trying something new.

Anxiety of change.

Anxiety of meeting new people.

An anxiety is an emotion of your body telling you that something is different and something feels off.

An anxiety is okay.

Maybe really the anxiety is a cover emotion for when you're scared,

When you're unsure or something is different.

The most important thing is communicate your feelings.

Listen to your body.

And when you feel anxiety,

It's best to step back.

Calm yourself down.

And ask yourself,

What is this anxiety trying to tell me?

And then tell someone that you love,

I'm feeling anxiety about this.

And they should help you feel better and more secure with the situation that you find yourself facing.

Because feelings do come and feelings go.

You'll never know what they'll be.

One moment you could feel silly or angry.

Another moment you could feel happy or sad.

All these feelings are part of you.

And so it's good to listen to your feelings.

Your feelings are there to help guide you throughout life.

And so I hope you enjoyed listening to this story about your feelings and understanding them.

Because everyone has them.

And so thank you for listening.

Have a wonderful day.

And it is so.
