Use this breathing meditation anytime you need some centering and powering up. The center of your body is your place of power, so we'll use deep abdominal breathing to activate this potent region. Breathing deeply into your core strengthens and stretches your diaphragm, massages your internal organs, and creates energy. In addition, breathing deeply into the belly naturally recenters you by bringing awareness to the center of your body, allowing you to be focused and in the present moment.

Welcome to this meditation for breathing in power.

In this meditation,

We're going to power up your respiratory system,

Strengthen your diaphragm,

And bring in more energy.

It's a three-part breathing practice.

Let's begin by sitting up tall in a chair.

Place both hands over your lower abdomen.

When you inhale,

Allow the abdomen to expand.

This means your diaphragm is moving downward.

When you exhale,

Abdomen moves back towards the spine.

This is deep abdominal breathing.

Again,

Inhale,

Allow the abdomen to expand.

And when you exhale,

The belly moves back towards the spine.

When you breathe into the belly,

You're breathing into your place of power.

The lower abdomen has been called dantian in Chinese medicine,

Which means elixir field.

A place to bring healing energy and power.

When you breathe into the belly,

You naturally recenter.

To be truly centered means to have energy and awareness at the center of your body.

Again,

Inhale,

Allow the abdomen to expand.

Exhale,

Feel the belly move back towards the spine.

Keep breathing into the belly,

Deep and full through the nose.

Inhale,

Abdomen expands.

Exhale through the nose,

Belly moves back towards the spine.

Deep belly breathing helps to stretch the diaphragm,

Massage the internal organs.

When you breathe into your belly,

Your mind becomes clear.

As energy moves downward,

The mind stays open,

Focused and in the present moment.

Continue breathing into your belly.

See if you can get more movement where your hands are.

Both hands over the navel,

Inhale and feel that expansion.

Exhale through the nose,

Feel the movement of the abdomen back towards the spine.

Try exhaling all the way out so that on your next in-breath,

There's more space to breathe deeply into the belly.

Breathing into your place of power,

Your center,

Your lower dantian,

In Japanese,

The hara.

Breathe slow and deep.

You are cultivating diaphragmatic flexibility.

The benefits of deep abdominal breathing are mental clarity,

Improved cardiovascular system,

A calming of the nervous system,

A feeling of being centered and mentally clear.

Continue inhale at the abdomen expand.

Exhale,

Belly moves back towards the spine.

And any time you need to power up the entire system,

You can do a deep abdominal breathing,

Cultivating that energy into your center,

Into your place of power.

And whenever you're ready,

You can open your eyes,

Move your body.

And remember,

Take deep,

Slow breaths into the belly whenever you want a little powering up through the rest of your day.
