Welcome to this practice of letting the breath breathe you.
This is a delicious practice of receiving,
Doing very very little,
Little efforting,
And receiving support and nourishment.
I'll guide you through.
So go ahead and take a comfortable position.
You might either sit or lie down.
See what's comfortable for you,
What's nourishing and supportive.
You might notice the kind of posture that feels right for you.
And as you're arriving here,
You might do a few little movements with the shoulders and the neck,
The wrists,
The ankles,
Fingers and toes.
Taking some time to find just the right spot for you.
The position that supports presence and comfort.
And then as you arrive here,
Begin just to feel the support of the earth beneath you.
Whether you're sitting or lying down,
Point your attention toward the support that the earth is offering you through the love language of gravity.
And then,
This is key,
Allow yourself to receive that support.
What happens when you say,
Oh,
Let my body just receive this support a little bit more.
And then soften or close your eyes,
Whatever is comfortable for you.
And then you might place one hand or both hands on your heart.
And then take a few breaths,
A few complete breaths in and out.
And beginning to feel the breath breathing you.
You might even just begin to explore and play with and get curious about,
Oh,
What's that like to let the breath breathe me?
Without trying,
Without controlling the breath.
Just letting this life force energy breathe you.
You might notice how your body responds to that invitation to just let the breath breathe you.
And then imagine and feel the breath organically spreading through your body.
Imagine it going easily into every cell in your body,
From your head to your toes,
The back and the front of your body,
To the left and the right sides of your body.
Gently inviting and then gently receiving.
And now bring your attention to your heart and feel the breath.
Invite the breath to swirl into this heart space.
You might just notice what's here right now in the heart space.
And just keep on breathing.
Keep on just inviting the breath here and relaxing into the breath breathing you.
You might feel your heart pulsing and humming.
Enjoy this aliveness flowing through you.
Even see your body as a sacred vessel humming with that aliveness as the breath breathes you.
There's nothing for you to try or do.
Just receive the gift of the breath.
If it's been a little while since you have visited your heart or if it doesn't feel like you've got too much spaciousness right now in you in this moment or you don't feel that hum of aliveness quite yet,
That's completely okay.
I mean,
We live in a culture of doing and it takes time to unwind ourselves from this habit of trying and controlling and learning how to settle.
This embodied awareness practice where you are doing very little and just receiving takes some time.
So go super easy on yourself and give yourself some grace.
Just extend the invitation and then relax into,
Soften into with the intention of the breath just breathing you.
So even if you notice there's just a little hum of aliveness in you,
As you practice letting the breath breathe you,
You will find that even with this,
Even with whatever is here,
Whatever arises in your experience,
There is always a hum of your heart.
There is a sacred aliveness still pulsing within you and you will make contact with it over time.
Even in this moment,
Even if it's just a little bit,
You are connecting with your heart and the breath is guiding you there.
The breath is guiding you into hearing and feeling this hum of aliveness and your connection to it will grow and that aliveness will take up space in you and spread like honey with you as you practice.
So I cannot emphasize enough to be patient and kind with yourself.
Let yourself be breathed and received.
This poem is called The Sacred Hum.
Let these words just wash over you with nothing to do,
Nothing to try,
Just receive the blessing of these words.
Beloved,
Listen beneath the chatter and the harshly layered sounds of modern life.
Listen to the gentle yet steadfast beating of your heart.
Listen to the ocean waves of your breath rising and receding in each new moment.
Beneath it all,
Within it all,
A sacred spaciousness hums.
All of life arises from here,
All of life returns here.
Each breath,
An invitation to be fully here in this sacred vessel of a body,
Humming with aliveness.
Thank you so much for practicing with me today.
I hope this was nourishing and supportive to you.
