Welcome to this meditation that was recorded during one of our monthly Embodied Awakening - Meditation and Self-Inquiry gatherings. In this meditation, you are invited to meet what arises in yourself in response to the heartbreak of the world. In allowing space for whatever is arising in you to be met fully, something fresh may be discovered. What is left when you stop going to war with yourself? What right action in the world may arise? All in service of peace and awakening. There are moments of silence during this half-hour meditation.

Welcome everyone.

My name is Margot and I welcome you to this meditation on meeting heartbreak.

There's so much heartbreak in the world right now.

War and atrocities,

Violence,

And this meditation is really an invitation to turn inward from the events and what's unfolding in the world to discover what is unfolding within you in response.

To discover and truly meet the heartbreak within yourself and to slow it down and to meet before there's the movement to fix or change.

And that movement to fix and change,

It's absolutely beautiful.

But just for right now,

There's really the invitation to come closer,

More intimate with yourself and meet the violence that is arising in you.

For there just to be space for the violence,

The despair,

Without turning away from yourself.

This is really the invitation.

And in this,

There's the possibility to discover what is beyond yourself.

What is beyond any idea of yourself and other.

What is transcendent and awake and free.

And from here,

I wonder what right action can emerge,

Can arise,

Can serve the world.

This meditation was recorded as part of a monthly gathering that I host,

Embodied Awakening,

Meditation and Self-Inquiry.

And if you would like to know more,

The contact information is at the end of this video.

Welcome and enjoy.

So right now,

Really nothing for you to do.

So I invite you to get comfortable in whatever way that you can.

Just where you're sitting.

You can have cameras on,

Cameras off,

Whatever feels right.

Yeah.

Somehow just this invitation to get comfortable.

There may be a little more awareness of the body.

Just how it's being supported by whatever surface you're sitting on.

Yeah.

Being supported by the ground underneath you.

Just this awareness of what's supporting the body right now.

That could be a signal for whatever was happening before this gathering,

Before you came here.

It can all just fall away into the past.

And whatever needs to happen later,

It can fall away into the future to be taken care of effortlessly at the right time.

And something can start to settle and relax a little more deeply.

That's right now.

That's right.

And thoughts may still be coming or going and that's not a problem.

Be just a signal for whatever's aware,

Actually to fall all the way down to the feet.

It's where I love to start.

So you may notice there's the surface that the feet are resting on.

Might be hard or soft or cool or warm.

I don't know.

And there's the possibility that whatever's aware can actually fall right inside the feet or rest inside the feet.

That's right.

Because awareness is actually already there.

You can rest inside your own feet and I don't know what that could be like.

As though you're sensing them from the inside.

You can be aware of the space in between the muscles and the bones that may be tingly or warm or cool.

I don't know.

Or maybe there's a sense of numbness.

All of it.

Just right.

You may notice that there's a space inside the feet that feels settled and at ease.

And there's really permission just to rest.

And awareness may start to move up the legs.

So somehow can sense this inner spaciousness in the legs,

In between the muscles and the bones.

Spaciousness inside.

You sense it in the knees and the thighs.

Yeah.

This inner aliveness.

And I don't know what it could feel like to sense this all through the pelvis.

Maybe comfortable or possible or not.

Not a problem.

And sensing this inner spaciousness up through the belly and the low back.

As though you are resting inside yourself.

And you sense this up through the heart area,

The shoulders.

You may feel how somehow this awareness just naturally flows down through the arms,

Inside the hands and the fingers.

That's right.

And perhaps awareness comes back up through the arms to the neck area,

Inside the head.

That's right.

Aware of the whole inside spaciousness of the head.

May feel comfortable or not.

And that's just right.

So I wonder what it could be like to feel this inner spaciousness all the way through the inside.

From the top of the head to the fingertips and bottoms of the feet.

And all the space in between.

And somehow you can sense that this inner spaciousness is what you are.

This essence.

And I don't know what it could be like to also sense where the edges of this spaciousness essence are.

And you feel this outside the body as well.

That's right.

So as you sense the spaciousness inside the body and outside the body,

Really feel,

Is there a difference?

I don't know.

We'll rest here for a moment.

Just sensing.

Really good.

And I wonder what it could be like from here.

Just to feel,

Sense,

Imagine or think about what's going on in the Middle East.

Or maybe you even imagine something that's happening closer to home.

And as you feel,

Sense,

Imagine or think about what's going on,

The invitation is to just notice what happens in you.

And what has to happen to bring this in.

And then what happens in the system?

What happens to this awareness of the spaciousness?

What happens in the nervous system?

What thoughts arise?

Or emotions?

Maybe nothing at all.

I don't know.

If there's just space right now.

Or whatever comes.

Once somehow this spaciousness in this,

There's room for whatever is arising just to be here.

And if anything feels like it's too much for the system,

Not a problem.

You can just let awareness fall back into some sense of ease in the feet.

And perhaps you can feel,

Sense or imagine or think about some kind of conflict in your own life.

Perhaps that you have been a part of creating some kind of judgment or moving against some kind of I'm right and they're wrong.

I don't know what that could feel like.

But once again,

If there's so much space just to notice whatever arises with this.

Whatever sensations or stories,

Emotions.

That's right.

Perhaps as everything slows down,

There's a sense of the pain caused.

Perhaps unintentionally,

But the pain caused.

And if there's space,

Even for this,

You don't need to fix or change just for a moment.

Allowing the heartbreak of being human.

Really good.

You're doing really well.

And I don't know,

There may be something else even that you want to invite in to this spaciousness from the past or somewhere else.

Something that just is calling to be welcomed in.

And you can do that now.

Just noticing sensations and vibrations,

Thoughts or constrictions.

And if there's so much space for all of this,

Really good.

And what you've discovered in yourself,

In all of this,

To once again invite you to sense what it is that you really want.

That's right.

I don't know what it is that you do.

You can have a sense.

And if that's here right now,

Maybe in a small way,

Or perhaps you can really feel it everywhere,

I don't know.

But that's just right.

And so if this is here right now,

What you really want,

You may sense something even deeper.

And that's right.

And you may or may not,

But as you sense something even deeper,

You can sense that just how the awareness of that allows whatever this is to expand as it reveals itself as what's always been,

What's always,

What's always been here.

And I can feel like such a relief that this has always been here.

Maybe we've turned away from it.

But just as awareness comes back,

There's perhaps the senses.

That's right.

Always.

There can be such a relief in that.

And I don't know what it can be like just to rest in this that has always been here,

Has always been what you are.

Even if there's resistance or numbing out or forgetting or moving away,

Not a problem.

Because the moment that stops,

This reveals itself as always here.

And I don't know what it could be like to sense this that is always here at the very core,

No matter what resistance or conflict or judgment or whatever shows up.

This is always here.

I wonder what it could be like to sense this everywhere.

And even in the very core of the most violent conflict,

That there's something deeper.

That's right.

There's something deeper and whole,

Like the eye of the storm.

And I don't know what it could be like to sense this in the conflict of the world,

In the conflict of your own life.

This wholeness that's untouched,

That somehow doesn't need to protect itself and has the capacity to meet everything.

It is the capacity.

It is everything.

And from here,

I don't know what it could be like when this meditation is over,

To open your eyes and move through your day,

To watch the news or meet a stranger on the street or interact with your own family.

But something is different now.

Something has changed.

And somehow there's mysteriously a greater capacity to meet everything that arises inside,

To meet everything that arises outside.

That's right.

And this can feel so good.

So once again,

I invite you,

When you're ready,

Just to start to notice again,

Awareness can come more into the body.

And you may start to notice the sounds in your own space.

And when you're ready,

Your eyes will just naturally open.
