Part 3: Body Scan
by David Phears
One of the most efficient way to eliminate stress is to invest time in listening to your body and making the necessary energy slight adjustments.

Part 3 of Kinetic Mindfulness.
Body Scan Stress Diffuser.
Greetings.
Thinking about energy,
Stress,
Where it's held on part 1 in the breathing exercise,
You've got the understanding that in the neck and shoulders a lot of energy is held.
There are other places as well.
We're going to get into that in a moment.
We're going to take a look at managing moving through and transforming stress into grace,
Ease,
And calm.
And so,
Take a moment,
Get comfortable,
Put everything down,
Close your eyes,
Or shade your eyes if you don't like to close them.
This is an intimate experience for yourself.
It's all about self-care.
It's all about transformation.
The body works for us all day long,
All night long.
The breath works for us all day long,
All night long.
When you and I take the time to invest in stillness and appreciate the breath and appreciate the body,
There's a deep,
Undefinable connection that is made.
And that intention of appreciation absolutely vibrates throughout the whole body,
And the body responds in kind.
Find your breath.
In finding your breath,
You're letting go of the past,
You're letting go of the future,
You're letting go of what you have to do after this session.
You're letting go of what you did prior to this session.
How?
By simply focusing on your breath.
The inhale and the exhale.
The ebb and the flow.
It's like the waves of the ocean caressing the shore,
Moving up on the sand,
And then receding back into itself.
That's what life is all about.
Circulation.
Giving and receiving.
And so as you find your breath,
Notice the depth of your inhale and the depth of your exhale.
Notice the rhythm of your breath,
The texture.
You know,
The deeper you go into this awareness of your breath,
The more you begin to appreciate the value of that awareness.
For without this,
What am I?
And the flip side of that,
With breath,
I can do everything.
And of course we know that there's a source for all breath,
And that's up to you to discover.
We're here to enjoy it.
Notice the temperature of the inhale and the temperature of the exhale.
And whenever you're ready,
When you take an inhale,
Stop at the top of that inhale and feel and experience the high energy of the inhale,
Of that energy coming in.
And then when you release that and go into the exhale,
Stop there for a moment and feel the emptiness and the new foundation from which to build on that exhale.
So beautiful,
So powerful,
This breath.
One of the tools that you can use in kinetic mindfulness during your day to become mindful is just take a snapshot,
If you will,
Or a selfie,
But not a physical one with your phone,
But a spiritual selfie,
If you will,
And ask yourself,
Where's my breath?
How's my breathing?
And you might find that your breath is very short,
That your breath is scattered,
Because you're in your head,
Because you're in your doingness.
Not that anything's wrong with that,
But I can guarantee you,
Once you learn how to manage that and breathe more and find stillness more,
Then your doing will be more productive,
More powerful,
And more beneficial for everyone.
Find your breath.
And so there's this thing called tapping.
And simply put,
I mean,
I'm not a scientist,
But I can tell you that it works.
Simply put,
Tapping is just using your hands to tap different areas of your body.
And again,
Remember,
We're talking about energy.
And so what I want to do is we're going to tap some areas of the body where it has been shown that energy that we don't necessarily want to allow to infect our experiences can congregate.
And so we want to go to those areas and tap the opening of those areas so that we can infuse and allow,
As we breathe in life,
That life to reach those areas.
Another thing about short breath is that the shorter your breath,
The harder it is for that,
Which the breath creates and does for the body,
To reach the extremities that it normally can.
And so when you really breathe deeply,
You can feel that breath all the way down to your fingers and your toes,
And then all the way back up to the top of your head.
Feel that now as you breathe in deeply and exhale deeply,
The energy moving through your body.
In fact,
Let's get ready to inhale.
Inhale deeply and exhale three,
Two,
One.
Find your new breath.
And so stress and short breath go together like bread and butter.
They go together like quinoa and peas.
They go together like the sun and the moon.
I mean,
It's just the way it is.
And so when we can train ourselves to invest in stillness,
To use the kinetic mindfulness tools to move into a place of appreciation and awareness of the breath,
We absolutely do not give stress a place to live.
You know,
There's stress and there's stress.
You know,
Stress in its infancy is simply a matter of doing.
But when stress becomes overwhelming,
When stress becomes unchecked,
When you live in stress,
When you sleep in stress,
When you eat in stress,
When you make love in stress,
When you conversate in stress,
You know,
Your life becomes unmanageable.
And it doesn't be,
It's not real.
It's not who you are.
And no human being can live healthfully not being who they are.
Inhale deeply,
Exhale three,
Two,
One.
Find your breath.
So there's something that you might have brought in with you to this session that you can really choose to let go of right now.
It's a thought,
It's a feeling,
It's an emotion,
It's a belief.
What is it that you would love to get rid of today?
Now,
The flip side of that is if everything is going hunky-dory and you're just grooving and you're loving life,
What can you increase or enhance today?
Don't fall into the trap that everything is going good and this is as good as it gets.
That's not the truth.
Because once you get on a roll with things being good,
They can always get better.
Find your breath,
Find your breath,
Find your breath.
So let's set an intention for this session.
You want to let go of something or you want to enhance something?
Deep breath for those of you who are letting go.
I finally let go of,
And fill in the blank,
Now.
So your statement is I finally let go of fear,
I finally let go of doubt,
I finally let go of worry,
I finally let go of stress,
I finally let go of poverty.
Whatever is bugging you,
Whatever it is,
Take that word and put it on this mantle,
Put it on this blank space.
I finally let go of now.
Once you have that,
Inhale it and exhale it seven times.
Seven breaths,
14 times.
Don't get caught up in the minutiae of the numbers.
Enjoy the transformation by the time you get to eight and nine.
Oh my goodness,
Go for it.
Those of you who are enhancing something,
I accept greater whatever in my life now.
Seven times.
Breathe,
Manage that monkey mind.
Breathe.
Inhale deeply and let's exhale.
Three,
Two,
One.
Inhale.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five and hold.
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Release.
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Stay empty.
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five and find your new breath.
Slight adjustments in your body,
Whatever is required.
Find your new breath.
Breathe into that,
Your new statement of release.
While you're doing that,
Put your hands out in front of you with your palms facing you and look at your left hand.
The bottom of the pinky where that crease is,
All the way to the top of the wrist where that crease is,
Along the side of your hand,
Not the palm,
Not the back of the hand,
But the side.
It's been shown that in this area,
In the nerve endings of this area,
A lot of the energy of disappointment,
Discouragement,
Betrayal is held in this area.
What I want to invite you to do is to begin to take your right hand with your fingers and just begin to tap,
Tap,
Tap,
Tap,
Tap in that area that I outlined for you between the crease of the bottom of your pinky and the crease of the top of your wrist.
Once you start doing that,
Relax your other hand that you're tapping and then close your eyes and say your statement,
I finally let go of now.
I finally let go of now and let it take its course,
Its own course.
It might increase in speed and it might slow down.
Once you get the groove going with that,
Then switch hands and use that left hand to tap the right area.
Again,
In kinetic mindfulness and yogitation,
It's always about balance both sides.
Continue that until you hear the bell.
Breathe.
Bring in your statement.
Find your new breath.
Relax your hands.
What are you aware of in this moment?
What are you mindful of?
Breathe.
Manage the monkey mind and be.
Imagine that you're in your favorite rain forest or outdoor shower or your favorite shower in a home.
And you feel the energy of that water at the perfect temperature for you flowing over your head,
Over your neck and your shoulders and down all through your body and all over your feet.
Just feel yourself being drenched and caressed by this water.
And then we up level that and see this water as simply the energy,
The light energy moving through the body,
Diffusing any stress.
Any stress.
Inhale deeply.
Exhale three,
Two,
One.
Inhale one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Open your mouth.
Let it out.
Feel that energy moving down from the top of your head,
Moving over your eyelashes,
Caressing your brain,
Every hair on the top of your head,
Your eyebrows,
Your eyes,
Your eye socket.
Take a deep breath as that energy moves down to your nose,
Into your sinuses,
Around to your ears,
Into your eardrums.
Another deep cleansing breath as you feel this energy move down into your lips,
Your teeth,
Your tongue,
Down into your throat.
Take a deep breath as this energy moves around your neck and into your shoulders where we carry the weight of all kinds of things.
We just release that now as this energy moves down through us.
Down through your biceps,
Into your elbows,
Forearms,
Your wrists,
Your hands,
The palm of your hand,
The back of your hand,
Your fingers,
And your fingernails.
Take a deep breath and feel that energy moving down through your body now,
Shooting out of your fingernails from the top of your head,
Over the top of your head,
Shooting out of those fingernails right now.
Breathe deeply into this movement.
And then this movement naturally begins to move itself into your torso.
And the torso,
You acknowledge the upper back.
Breathe into that as that moves into the lower back.
Breathe into that as it moves forward into the lower stomach.
Breathe into that as it moves back up into the upper chest,
Covering that whole torso right now.
Breathe into the,
Over the top of the head,
Down the shoulders,
Shooting out of the hands,
Into the torso.
And every single functioning organ within the torso,
We claim it any way we choose.
Everything is functioning perfectly.
Perfect color,
Perfect texture,
Perfect hue.
In fact,
You can say it out loud or inwardly if you'd like.
I am.
Perfect assimilation,
Perfect circulation,
And perfect elimination right now.
Right now.
Take another deep breath into that statement as that energy moves from the top of your head,
Down through your body into your lower extremities,
Into your legs,
Thighs,
The biggest bones in the body,
Covered by all these miraculous things like skin and bone and tissue and fiber and vessels and sinews and capillaries and ligaments and tendons and on and on and on.
Breathe deeply into the body as it moves down into the knees that bend for us all the time,
That go to work for us all the time,
Down into the shins and the calves.
You're taking a deep,
Deep breath as that energy moves from over the top of your head,
Down through your body,
Through your legs,
Right down into those ankles,
The beautiful ankles.
How do these little spaces and areas carry such big volume?
Doesn't matter.
They do,
And we appreciate it.
Breathe into that as this energy moves into the bottom of your feet,
The top of your feet,
And then it shoots out of your toes.
So this energy is shooting out of your fingers and shooting out of your toes.
Breathe deeply as this moves through your body now.
Now take a deep breath.
And feel the energy moving back up from the bottom of your feet,
Moving through your body,
Through the lower extremities,
Up through the torso,
Coming up through the hands,
Up through the shoulders,
Into the face and shooting out of the top of the head.
So on the inhale,
You feel the energy moving down,
And on the exhale,
You feel the energy moving back up,
Totally in the circulation,
Totally in the flow of this life-giving force.
Breathe and be.
Thank you.

Great use of additional ambient music and sound effects. It really helped me focus on the breathing and my body; my focus remained on the meditation for the entire time and was not drawn away by my thoughts. Very relaxing.
