Yoga nidra for kapalini nidra.
Prepare for the practice of yoga nidra by lying on the back in shavasana,
Corpse pose.
If lying on your back does not feel comfortable,
Take any type of meditative position that feels right to you.
Tonight we are in the lunar realm of the full moon.
This is a critical juncture in the lunation cycle.
The moon is full,
Bright,
Dominant,
And dramatic in the night sky.
At its apex,
The moon can do nothing more now than fade.
Tonight's moon advises us to regroup and adjust because major changes are on their way.
The moon has begun its waning phase.
We know deeply,
Internally,
That tomorrow will not be quite as bright.
The moon has taken its first step on the journey home.
It is dying archetypically.
It is heading back to the divine.
It is time to reconnect with the dead parts of ourselves that have been buried and forgotten.
Bring awareness to the breath and breathe naturally.
She is the lunar goddess,
The nitya of skulls.
Her affirmation is,
I honor my darkness.
Repeat this affirmation three times mentally with full awareness.
As you lie down on the back,
Feel the floor supporting you.
Imagine you're lying on dark earth.
Relax and be supported by this dark,
Fertile soil.
Bring awareness to the back.
When you feel a spot that's tense or resisting,
Take a deep breath and relax.
Bring awareness to the top of the head and simply feel whatever sensations are there,
Perhaps tingling,
Itching,
Pulsing.
Maybe there's no sensation.
Simply let the awareness move down the front of the face.
Be aware of whatever is encountered,
Tightness,
Relaxation,
Pressure.
Notice the forehead,
The nose,
The mouth,
Cheeks.
Is the jaw clenched or loose?
Turn the awareness to the eyes and feel the weight of the eyelids.
Connect to the movement of the eyeballs in their sockets.
Notice the brush of the lashes.
Feel the lips,
The light pressure of skin on skin.
Notice the softness,
Moisture,
Maybe coolness.
Return the awareness to the top of the head and then move down the back of the head over the curve of the skull.
Notice the neck.
Notice the neck.
Are there any knots or sore spots?
Once again,
Return to the top of the head and move the awareness down the sides of the head.
Feel the ears,
The jaw,
The sides of the neck,
The tops of the shoulders.
Simply move the awareness down the upper arms,
Feeling the elbows,
The forearms.
Let the awareness rest for a moment on the hands,
The palms of the hands,
The backs of the hands.
Connect to and feel each individual finger and each fingertip.
Bring the awareness back to the neck and throat and slowly move it down through the chest,
Noticing any sensations in the chest.
Connect to the rib cage,
The abdomen,
And then up back to the awareness of the neck.
Return the awareness to the neck and journey down the back of the body.
Shoulder blades,
Mid-back,
Lower back.
Notice any stiffness,
Tension,
Creakiness.
Bring the awareness to the pelvic area.
Notice any sensations and move the awareness down the thighs,
Knees,
Calves.
Move downward and feel the ankles and settle the awareness on the feet.
And journey up the body to the thumb and bring awareness to the bones in the thumb,
The metacarpals,
The phalanges,
And mentally chant,
Om Aime.
Mentally chant,
Om Aime,
With the awareness at the thumbs.
Bring awareness to the bones and the index fingers and with the awareness at the index fingers,
The bones there,
Mentally chant,
Om Klim.

And mentally chant,
Om to the earth and soil.
Mentally chant,
Om to the darkness that resides in all of us.
Mentally chant,
Om for life,
Death and reincarnation.
Mentally chant,
Om to Kapalini Nitya,
The lunar goddess of skulls.
And then let go of this practice of Nyasa and reconnect to the self as it lies on the back.
Imagine the body is dead.
See the body lying dead in Shavasana,
Corpse pose.
And imagine that this death brings a great feeling of peace.
Feel the body in the earth.
Feel connected to the earth.
Be one with the earth.
Feel connected to the earth and the divine mother.
Become one with the earth.
Become one with the solar system.
Become one with the galaxy.
Become one with the universe.
Become one with everything.
Feel the body decomposing and becoming one with the earth and the mother.
Feel the flesh,
Muscles and organs begin to separate from the bones.
Feel the ground welcoming the body as it dissolves into the ground.
Feel the earth dissolve all parts of the body.
See the bones in their beautiful whiteness.
And now see the bones falling away,
Dissolving,
Breaking up into powder.
And see her there,
Kapalini.
She is pitch black in color.
Her darkness represents the void of time manifest.
From her all things physical come,
Go and ultimately return.
Her face is beautiful.
Her hair is wild and disheveled.
Her tongue hangs loosely out of her mouth.
She is a representation of ultimate freedom in action.
She represents freedom from all human perceived constraints.
Her name,
Kapalini,
Means skull girl.
This evening,
The evening of kapalini,
Two nights after the full moon,
Is a time of revelation.
Kapalini reveals to us that the parts of ourselves we had given up for dead are merely dormant and that new possibilities can emerge from what we had considered hidden or lost.
It's time to let go of lies and free ourselves from shame and guilt.
Great transformation is waiting for us.
All we need to do is release our fear.
Ask yourself what feelings,
Hopes,
And dreams have you buried?
Is it possible to be whole when important parts of the self have been left behind?
What secrets need to be released in order for you to move forward?
Is it time to unearth the buried parts of yourself?
Kapalini can guide you back to the dark,
Forgotten places.
She will protect you as you integrate all parts of the self.
She will give life to what has been considered dead and assist you in your quest to become whole and healed.
Connect to kapalini.
Feel the dust of the bones reforming in the body.
Feel the flesh,
Muscles,
And organs reattaching to the bones.
Feel the body becoming unified,
Whole,
Healed,
One connected.
See the full moon in the dark night sky.
Let kapalini dissolve into the moonlight as your body becomes integrated,
Whole,
Connected,
Strong,
Healthy,
Vibrant.
Let her dissipate,
Knowing that you can call on her tonight before you go to bed or any month two nights after the full moon.
Come back to her affirmation,
I honor my darkness,
And repeat it three times mentally with full awareness.
And feel the darkness of the body.
Feel the weight of the body.
Feel the body heavy.
The head is heavy.
Shoulders and arms are heavy.
Torso is heavy.
Helvis and buttocks are heavy.
Legs are heavy.
Feet are heavy.
Feel the body heavy and grounded,
Whole and complete.
And come back to the breath.
And make each inhale deeper and deeper.
And make each exhale fuller and fuller.
Inhaling and exhaling deeply and fully.
Inhaling and exhaling deeply and fully.
And say to yourself mentally,
The practice of yoga nidra for kapalini nidra is now complete.
Keep the eyes closed and begin to wiggle the fingers and the toes.
Roll the wrists and ankles one way.
And then the opposite direction.
And then roll over onto the right side in a fetal position.
Position of rebirth and renewal.
And then push yourself up to a comfortable seated position with the hands in prayer at the heart center.
Om Kapaliniye Namaha.
Om Kapaliniye Namaha.
Namaste.
