Since thoughts create beliefs, which then create behaviors, negative thoughts can undermine us right into a standstill. But there’s a way to stop negative thoughts right in their tracks. All it takes is challenging them with 7 direct questions, starting with: Says Who?

Welcome to the Sesu Meditation.

Find a quiet place to sit.

Keep comfortable and close your eyes gently.

Take a deep breath in and let it go.

Another deep breath in and let it go.

Allow yourself to be present in this moment with acceptance and non-judgment.

If at any time your mind begins to wander,

Simply bring your focus and attention back to your breath.

Feel yourself surrendering,

Free-falling into this moment of now.

Loosen any tension you might feel in your body.

Allow yourself to open more and more to this moment.

Relaxing.

Relaxing.

Relaxing.

Think of a thought that has gotten your attention.

Maybe it's a thought you've been carrying around for a long time.

Or perhaps it's a thought that came to you recently.

Is it a thought that weighs on you somehow?

Is it a thought that bothers you in some way?

Is it a thought that makes you unhappy?

Is it a thought that makes you anxious?

Ask yourself,

Says who?

Who is saying this thought in my mind?

If it's you that is saying it,

Say quietly to yourself,

I am saying this thought in my mind.

Ask yourself,

Have I heard someone say this thought before?

And if you have,

Try and remember who said it to you.

If you can remember who said it,

Why would you take on someone else's thought?

Ask yourself,

Do I like this thought?

If you don't,

Why are you thinking a thought you do not like?

Ask yourself,

Does this thought make me feel better?

If it doesn't,

Why are you thinking a thought that does not make you feel good or better?

Ask yourself,

Does this thought work for me?

If it doesn't,

Why would you think a thought that does not work for you in a positive way?

Ask yourself,

Am I in control of this thought?

If you're not,

Why would you want to think a thought that has control over you?

Ask yourself,

Do I want to keep this thought or let it go?

If you want to keep it,

Why would you hold onto a thought that does not make you feel better?

Does not work for you and controls you?

If you want to let it go,

Say quietly to yourself,

I am ready to let this thought go.

Visualize extending your arm outwards,

Your hands palm up,

Wide open.

See a bird resting in the palm of your hand.

Take your thought and release it into the bird.

Watch it fly off of your hand into a clear blue sky.

Watch it go higher and higher into the air and further and further away from your sight.

Until you no longer see it.

Your thought is now gone and you are free from it.

Feel the lightness of your being.

Feel the freedom of your mind.

Feel the weightlessness of your thought that no longer exists.
