In this talk and guided meditation, Orgyen Chowang Rinpoche provides a brief introduction to meditation beginning with instructions on how to meditate on an object and continuing to Pristine Mind meditation (a Dzogchen style of meditation without an object). Rinpoche presents a number of ways to bring our awareness to a single focus and gradually guides us to abide in our own awareness without any focus at all, majestically remaining in our Pristine Mind.

We want to do meditation,

Okay?

I think everybody has similar meditation to some degree,

But I want to talk about,

Follow here called pristine mind meditation.

It's very unique and this is a whole entire meditation combined.

This is some portion mindfulness,

Some portion,

You know,

Zen or like all meditations come together and that is called pristine mind meditation.

I think I want to introduce that.

Therefore,

First how do you clarify your mind?

How do you remain in pristine experience?

And that really means that you need physically,

Physical is very important to support your meditation.

You need more physical,

You make comfortable,

Relaxed,

You know,

Not tighten up,

Just natural.

Which is comfortable for you,

Do that.

Which is natural,

More comfortable,

I think that's really the best way to do the meditation posture.

This is comfortable,

Then do that.

This is comfortable,

Do that.

And you know,

Just anyway,

Do that and therefore that's called physical posture.

And sometimes close eyes,

But usually they open eyes.

Eye represents awakening,

Awareness.

You know,

Like therefore you're aware,

But not particularly,

Anywhere particularly thin.

You just make sure your mind is not drowsy,

Not like drowsy,

Unclear,

Too much rest is not good.

Too much rest is you don't know what's going on.

Just rest is usually unclearness.

Therefore like wake,

Alert,

Same time your mind relax,

Tranquil.

Therefore that and then that reason eyes open.

And then the real means mind is relax,

Present moment.

Means mind is stay present.

It's called stay present moment.

Not going past,

Not going future,

But stay present.

How do you do stay present?

I don't know how to do,

People say.

How to stay present?

If you don't know how to stay present,

Just focus something.

For example,

One area,

You know,

We have hundreds of focuses,

But hundreds of focuses become one.

Just focus on almost this area,

Maybe your friend,

This area.

One spot,

That means you don't know how to stay present.

If you know how to do that,

Then you don't need to do anything.

But you don't know how to stay present,

Then watching breath is one way.

But visually focus something is very easy.

And you see something,

Tensions directly stay with that.

Ninety percent objects,

Ninety-nine percent objects we are not focused,

But only focus one,

Just in this area.

That means your mind is fully present at this moment.

It's very comfortable,

Not like too tight,

Not just too,

Just very comfortably,

Naturally mind stay present moment,

Whatever you focus,

Just one spot.

If you don't know how to,

Just do that,

You don't know how to stay present,

And then just that.

That's called stay present moment.

And that means,

Say don't follow past,

Yesterday,

Day before yesterday,

Come back present moment.

Just stay present moment,

Whatever you focus.

Awareness relaxly,

Comfortably,

Majestically,

Stay present like mountain.

Mountain is not moving,

Just stays there.

Mind stay here,

Not going to past,

And don't go to future,

This afternoon,

Tomorrow events,

Don't go there,

Just stay present.

And don't wondering of this realms anywhere,

Just stay present one place.

This means your mind is no longer preoccupied past,

No longer preoccupied future,

No longer wondering of this moment everywhere,

Just firmly stay present moment.

Just do that.

It's not like too tensely,

But very comfortably stay present.

Any you focus somewhere,

Just stay there.

One spot,

Just stay there.

Just do that.

And that's only you need to do,

This is stay present moment.

You can watch breath,

Or you can stay another focus on one object,

Either one is fine,

But your mind belongs only one place.

Multiple focuses bring multiple thoughts.

You have ten things you focus,

You have ten thoughts arise,

But only you focus one place,

There's only one.

So,

Just focus one,

And comfortably remain.

Just comfortably remain present moment.

While you focus,

Just stay there.

If your mind drift to wondering from present moment,

Come back same place.

That's meditation is.

When you come back,

Go away,

And come back,

Stay one place.

Just stay there.

Training that is meditation.

Just remain in present moment,

Very comfortably.

Your mind is wondering,

Come back same spot.

Just stay there.

Once you remain in present moment,

This moment,

One spot,

The mental events disappear.

Thoughts are disappear,

Your perception,

The emotions are disappear,

Your perception,

And then habits,

Positive,

Negative habits,

Stress,

Fear,

Stress disappear,

But they're all conditional.

Conditions no longer here,

They're disappear.

Agitation is disappear,

Fear is disappear.

All negative thoughts,

Positive events are disappear,

They're all just gone.

The more your mental events are gone,

The more mind become comfortable,

Tranquil,

Clear.

Just stay with that experience.

Stay present moment awareness,

Stay present moment right now.

When your mind become clear,

Tranquil,

And then just stay present moment awareness,

You may no longer focus external condition.

When your mind becomes clear,

When your mind becomes tranquil,

And then stay present moment awareness.

First you focus external condition,

No time to remain your awareness.

Awareness is clear,

Tranquil,

And then stay present moment your own awareness,

Not external conditions.

You're just abiding,

Remaining with your own awareness,

And leave your mind alone,

Means don't focus external conditions,

But leave your mind just it is,

Calm,

Clear.

Leave your mind alone,

Without conditions,

Just stay present moment awareness.

You may see,

Experience external conditions,

That you can see everything clearly,

You can hear everything clearly,

But your mind is present moment awareness,

Where it belongs.

Then your mind drift to some conditions,

Then come back present moment awareness.

Just remain present moment awareness this moment.

.

Once you stay present moment awareness,

All mental events are like dissipate.

When your mental events are dissipate,

What is left is pristine mind,

Pristine awareness,

And then just remain,

Just majestically stay pristine awareness,

Pristine mind.

When clouds are dissipate,

You see the blue sky,

And just maintain blue sky,

Just remain blue sky.

Similarly,

When mental events are dissipate,

You arrive your true,

Unconditional consciousness awareness.

Then just remain very powerfully,

Majestically stay your pristine awareness,

Pristine mind.

Your mind is no longer caught up mental events,

Your mind is no longer caught up external conditions,

Your mind is majestically abiding your natural awareness.

And then mind is remaining,

Abiding,

Unconditional awareness,

And pristine mind.

Just stay with that,

It's meditation,

Just abiding there,

Remaining with that,

And mercy with pristine mind.

Your mind is no longer wandering,

Your mind is no longer preoccupied,

Your mind is no longer agitated,

Your mind is no longer lost,

Your mind is fully present with your natural awareness,

Pristine mind.

Just remain with that.

Here,

This moment,

There is presence of pristine mind,

Absence of mental events,

And just stay with that experience.
