It is said that on any given day, up to 90% of our thoughts are old, repeated thoughts we have had in the past. It is these thoughts, these well-worn neural pathways which often keep us stuck in old patterns of behaviour and reaction to stimuli, which can make us feel powerless. A growing body of research in neuroscience clearly shows that pathways in the brain can be re-wired, and in many cases all it takes is practice. In this meditation, we use a mantra as a tool to focus and examine our thoughts.

I break free a meditation on empowerment and freedom.

It is said that on any given day up to 90% of our thoughts are old repeated thoughts we have had in the past.

It is these thoughts,

These well-worn neural pathways,

Which often keep us stuck in old patterns of behaviour and reaction to stimuli,

And this can make us feel powerless over our own behaviour.

Many of these pathways were built in the past in response to events which are no longer relevant to us,

Based on old or incorrect information.

A growing body of research in neuroscience clearly shows that pathways in the brain can be rewired and in many cases all it takes is practice.

If you take the time to examine your thoughts,

You may find opinions and judgements which are actually not yours,

But those of your caregivers,

Past teachers,

Ex-partners and so on.

Get in the habit of asking yourself on a regular basis,

Is this my thought or someone else's?

Is this thought serving me?

Recognise that you are in control of your own mind,

One choice at a time.

You have more power than you realise,

And it's time to reclaim that power.

Now pause.

Breathe in.

Hold the breath.

Exhale.

And let's begin.

Close your eyes and allow these words to sink into your mind,

Body and soul.

As I sit here in my power,

I release my conditioning.

I do not struggle to break free with effort and strain.

I release and I let go.

As I sit here in my power,

I release my conditioning.

I do not yell at it or get angry,

Frustrated,

Break down.

I let it fall around me.

I release and I let go.

As I sit here in my power,

I release my conditioning.

For the next few minutes,

Repeat this phrase as our mantra for today.

As I sit here in my power,

I release my conditioning.

I release my conditioning.

As I sit here in my power,

I release my conditioning.

I am in a state of complete silence.
