Let's begin.
This will be a seated practice,
So you may choose to be seated on a chair with your feet grounded on the floor,
Or maybe seated on the floor with your back against a wall.
Take your time and be guided by your comfort so that you are feeling supported and aligned in whatever shape you choose.
Soham is a mantra that translates to that I am,
Reminding us that we are a pure light,
We are a pure essence of being.
When we begin to incorporate the Soham mantra,
It is simply this,
Breathing in and saying the word So silently to yourself,
Breathing out and saying the word Hum silently to yourself,
Inhaling So and exhaling Hum.
Don't worry if your mind wanders during this practice,
Simply notice the thought and then guide your mind back to your breathing and back to your mantra.
Chin mudra is a tool for increasing knowledge and wisdom.
If you would like to use this mudra,
It is simply this.
On each hand,
Gently press the pads of your thumb and your forefinger together.
Your hands may rest on your lap,
Either with your palms facing the sky to open your awareness,
Or palms facing the earth to calm your mind.
The choice is yours.
You may use this gesture throughout your practice or release it at any time you wish.
As you settle in,
Your eyes may be softly open or perhaps your eyes might gently close.
Know that you can open them at any time you need to.
Take a few moments to connect with your breathing,
Just noticing your natural breath.
Your jaw might soften a little,
Shoulders and shoulder blades melting back.
Breathing in and breathing out,
Allowing each breath to come and go like an ocean wave.
As you breathe,
Notice the wave of your breath.
Feel the rise when you inhale and the roll as you exhale.
Inhaling and exhaling.
Breathing with the motion of your breath.
Your breath like an ocean wave.
Your breath is your calm companion,
Always with you,
Supporting and nourishing you through the ebb and flow of everything your life brings.
Once you have settled into your breath,
You may invite the silent mantra to merge with your breathing.
Inhaling,
So exhaling,
Hum.
Breathing in,
So breathing out,
Hum.
So,
Hum.
That I am.
Pure light,
Pure essence of being.
So,
Hum.
So,
Hum.
Allow yourself to be nourished by your silent mantra for a few moments.
When you are ready,
Release the mantra and bring your awareness back to your breath.
Taking another deep breath in and another deep breath out.
Now is the time to free the heart.
Let all intentions and worries stop.
Free the joy inside yourself.
Awaken to the wonder of your life.
Taking another deep breath in and another deep breath out.
As you begin to open your eyes,
Taking your time to slowly inhabit this space,
Bringing with you a sense of peace,
Wholeness of being and connection.
May this day meet you with whatever it holds for you.
