Welcome,
Today we will be practicing accepting bodily sensations.
We'll start with a simple body scan from the top of our head,
Down our necks,
Relaxing our shoulders,
Down our back,
Our torso,
Down our arms,
All the way to our hands,
Down to our hips,
Legs,
Slowly down past the knees,
Our calves and shins,
And finally our feet.
Just take a moment,
Perhaps 30 seconds,
To scan your body once more and just take note of what's happening.
If there's pain in our back,
Just say there's pain in my back.
If there's an itch on your head,
Just say there's an itch on my head.
We don't have to do anything about it,
Just be with it.
We're not trying to edit the expression of our body.
We're not trying to make ourselves be in any particular way.
Just accept the reality of what is here and now.
Of course,
If it hurts too much,
Feel free to move.
Then come settle back into this stillness.
Just because we've accepted something does not mean we have resigned ourselves to something.
Just because we can accept that there's an itch on my head or that my back hurts does not mean we cannot itch our head and we cannot change our posture to help our back feel better.
On the contrary,
The only time that we can actually remedy what we are feeling is after we accept it.
Just continue to gently watch your body and the sensations that arise.
Oftentimes our mind will start to place labels or value judgments such as good or bad,
Such as I want this to stay or I want this to go away.
Just accept that those will be there.
Only once you can accept that you have these value judgments can you do anything about them.
You may have started to notice a theme that our individual effectiveness is completely tied to our ability to accept the present moment,
To accept what is.
Thank you for sharing this meditation with me.
Have a great rest of your day.
