Hello.
For our meditation today,
We are going to get curious about becoming a witness to our thoughts.
Oftentimes,
We spend so much of our lives thinking that we are our thoughts and that we are our emotions.
And we forget,
Yoga and meditation reminds us that actually our essence,
The deepest,
Truest part of ourselves are not those things.
Thoughts and emotions are just things that come and go into our lives.
And it's what gives us this rich and potent and powerful experience of being alive.
What we want to watch for is that we don't cling or attach to these things.
And instead we can sit back and know that this is just a part of our experience and it's not actually who we are.
So one of the many gifts that meditation gives us is the time and the space to create some distance between who we deeply are,
Our essence,
And what we're perceiving and interpreting from the outside world.
So in other words,
It gives us some space between who we are and our thoughts and our emotions.
And that's not to say that when we meditate,
We aren't going to feel things,
We aren't going to think about things because we will.
And that's part of the experience of life.
Rather,
Meditation gives us the opportunity to sink back and lean into the essence inside.
So I'd like for you to make sure that you are comfortable.
Make sure that your body is in a position that you can maintain for a few minutes and that your breath will support that.
So find a longer and more steady and fluid breath that will allow your entire system to know that it's safe,
Know that it's relaxed,
Opposed to a stressed or staggered breath.
Let your breath come with ease so that your entire body can drop in.
And now if you can bring your awareness to your mind and notice the sensations that are present in your mind.
Sometimes it feels really busy or like there's a lot of electricity in the head.
Or sometimes for me,
I can feel like my head is huge and weighs a lot from all the weight of what I'm carrying in my thoughts.
So just notice the energy that is present in your mind,
In your head.
And just simply see it without judging it as being good or bad.
But contrast doesn't exist here.
Just simply notice.
And can you perhaps name some qualities that are present with this energy in your mind?
Maybe it feels really light or fluffy or maybe it's static,
Maybe it's heavy.
Maybe it's clear or foggy.
If you could please visualize the energy that is present in your mind like a big chunk of ice.
So contained in a square with hard edges.
This sense of rigidity and toughness.
So imagine all of your thoughts and any tension and any stresses contained in this big block of ice.
So visualize this cube of ice in your mind and imagine a little bit of heat,
Just this really gentle warm loving heat is being applied to this chunk of ice.
Of course when that happens,
The ice will start to really slowly soften and melt.
And the little water drops that glide off of the smooth surface of the ice starts to drip downwards.
Like it were dripping down your throat and into your body where there's even more heat to transform.
And slowly moment by moment and thought by thought,
Drip by drip,
This chunk of ice becomes completely melted so that it's no longer contained just in your mind at all.
In fact there is no longer a container for all of these things.
It's been transformed into a completely different state.
And this transformation has allowed any heaviness or rigidity or tension in your mind to dissipate and dissolve into another form,
Into water which has now traveled from the brain,
Down the throat,
Down the spine,
Into the body.
You can imagine your breath like heat heating up this water,
Transforming it yet again into steam,
Into this quality of buoyancy and clarity and space.
So that the rigidity and the container of the ice has now completely transformed into something really spacious.
You can imagine that steam coming together with your breath and your inner body.
And the dance of the breath continues with every inhale and exhale.
And so with every exhale you have the opportunity to release your breath and that steam,
That transformation out of your body.
Notice if there's any more clarity that is being felt in your mind.
Notice if you feel a little bit more light in your mind and in your body.
You feel the ease in your shoulders and the softness of your belly.
Take just a couple more big breaths here.
Keep your eyes closed.
Take a full breath in through your nose.
That's all that goes sigh.
