This is a practice intended to open the heart. This guided remembrance practice invokes the Divine Quality of Al-Fattah, the Opener, while guiding awareness into the heart. Fattah, from the Arabic word miftâhî, translates as 'key' that opens or unlocks.

I'd like to begin today's heart-centered meditation with al-Fatiha.

Meditation through the heart gives us an opportunity to unify and connect all the parts of our being.

I'd like to encourage you to set an intention to connect with your heart and in doing so to move towards your soul.

Begin by allowing your awareness to go inside the body at the area of the upper chest.

It may be helpful for you to imagine that you're inside your body looking out through the back of your body towards the spine.

Orienting yourself in this way opens up space for you to notice the things that may be less conditioned.

This is also traditionally a pathway to the soul through the back of the heart.

Taking a deep breath and allowing your body and mind to relax as much as possible,

Moving you into a more receptive state.

As you sense the back of your heart,

Allow your mind to relax into the sound of the recitation.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

In the name of the one,

The most merciful,

The compassionate.

Oh God,

Please open us to our hearts that we may experience you in a new way,

That we may receive all that you're pouring out to us in this moment.

Beloved God,

You are the one who opens the way for us.

You are Al-Fattah,

The opener.

We ask that you open our hearts and make us more receptive to the voice of the heart and the processing of the heart.

Help us to bow our minds to our hearts and to receive deeply from your light.

Notice now how your heart is feeling.

Setting an intention again to go more deeply into the heart as I recite,

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

As we recite,

Ya Fattah,

Intending for the heart to open,

You may notice that your mind may come in.

Just allow the mind to do what it's doing without necessarily following your thoughts.

You really cannot do this wrong or incorrectly,

So staying with your heart as best you can,

Breathing into your heart,

Knowing that your heart is a hologram of your entire existence,

Past,

Present,

Future,

Body,

Soul,

Spirit.

Again,

Focusing at the back of the heart,

Leaning back into the back of the heart as if you were walking into a space of infinite possibility where there's nothing to do or be or fix.

You are as you are.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

Ya Fattah,

O Opener.

See if there's any message or sensation,

Something you can receive in this moment from the source of all that there is,

Allowing yourself to relax into the deep safety and trust,

Waiting,

Listening.

As you give thanks for this experience of your heart,

I encourage you to stay with your heart for a few more minutes after the meditation is complete.

To close the meditation,

I'd like again to recite Al-Fatiha.

I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed.

In the name of Allah,

The Gracious,

The Merciful.

All praise belongs to Allah,

Lord of the worlds.

The Gracious,

The Merciful.

O Lord of the Day of Judgment,

O Lord of the Day of Judgment,

O Lord of the Day of Judgment,

Let us enter the straight path,

The path of those who have not yet entered it,

The path of those who have not yet entered it,

And the path of those who have not yet entered it.

Amen.

Amen,

Amen.

Peace be with you.
