Hello,
My name is Peggy Koukassian and I'm a somatic practitioner here in Los Angeles,
California.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for everyone that has been listening to my videos and audio recordings and joining in on this beautiful practices that we get to experience in our bodies.
Today,
I will be doing a grounding through the feet practice,
Which is a somatic availability for stability and presence in the body.
When we feel unsteady,
Our thoughts start to race,
Or we can feel like we're just floating above our body.
It's often a sign that we've lost touch with the ground,
Literally and somatically.
Grounding through the physicality of our feet is one of the most direct ways to reconnect with our body's sense of stability and inner support.
Our feet are rich with sensory nerves and are the key access points to our nervous system.
With this practice,
You'll bring energy down and into your body,
Inviting in a deep sense of rootedness,
Presence,
And calm.
A wonderful practice to come back to when you're really feeling your body is not centered and you don't really feel like you have access to that grounding feeling.
As soon as we start to do three to five minutes of this practice,
We can start feeling back into our physical self,
Which will allow our emotions and anything that is really meant to be felt in our body in that moment,
It will allow it to come to surface.
It will allow the safety within to reveal what is happening underneath the skin.
So let's start and begin this practice.
Begin by standing or sitting with both feet flat on the floor.
Make sure to get yourself fully set up in an environment that you feel held and quiet,
Somewhere that you are in your own privacy.
And start to gently bring your attention to the soles of your feet.
Noticing the weight of your body pressing down on the floor,
Pressing back up against your feet.
Starting to take some really long,
Mindful,
Loving deep breaths into the body.
Start to shift your weight slowly from side to side,
Connecting the breath to the physical self.
And then front to back,
Shifting the weight front to back,
Feeling the tippy toes,
Feeling the heels,
Feeling that pressing down into the earth.
Feeling to the edges of your feet,
The heels,
The balls and the toes.
Now press down just slightly with the balls of your feet.
Feel the tone in your legs gently activating.
As you breathe in,
Imagine this energy drying up from the earth into your body.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine a soft release,
Any tension or charge flowing down and out through the feet.
Let's repeat the cycle a few more times and feeling that deep exhale grounding us deeper and deeper into this practice.
And this is that beautiful opportunity for you to just connect to yourself and allowing your own inner guidance to lead the way.
And as the breath comes in,
The roots just deepen and deepen within,
Feeling that connection to earth.
And as you exhale,
A soft release of any tension,
Of any charge that the body's been holding,
Letting it free,
Letting it go,
Making space for new things and new feelings to enter.
Continue the inhales and exhale.
And as we bring in some phrases,
We can either speak inwardly or out loud.
I am rooted.
I am here.
I am present.
I am held by the earth beneath me.
And with these words,
Start to feel the fullness of your body,
The presence of your own self,
Connecting to nature,
Connecting to earth.
Coming out of that fog and disassociated state and allowing the body to come so fully online that he or she might start to experience some of those suppressed emotions or allowing that safety to come through.
So if there is a need of expression in this moment,
The body will fully show up.
So as you inhale and exhale,
Allowing yourself to stay fully present,
Coming back to this practice.
Anytime you're feeling you need more stability and presence into your physical body and reminding you that these somatic physical practices are such a great pairing with different therapy modalities.
We can work our mind and our thoughts and our brain as well as connecting to our nervous system and our bodies.
And when we link and sync everything up,
Something beautiful truly happens.
In my own words,
I believe we start fully feeling authentic.
And every moment becomes this unique expression of a part of us that is unraveling and living.
So if you can continue doing this practice for three to five minutes,
We don't need to spend too much time doing.
And that's the beautiful thing about some of these somatic practices.
What I like to suggest to my clients is doing three to five minutes a day for three months straight.
And just noticing after those three months,
How does the body feel?
What is being triggered differently?
How are your reactions showing up differently?
And we can look at those parts of ourselves that start to shift.
Thank you so much for spending this time with me and letting me guide you.
And you can find many other practices on my teaching account.
Hope you have a beautiful blessed day.
Namaste.
