In this guided practice, the listener is invited to simply be present with life as it is, to relax the habit we have of seeking some other experience, looking for some other moment we imagine will be better, fuller, more satisfying, and so on. What can be discovered is just how unthinkably rich and full and complete each and every moment already is.

In life,

We can frequently find ourselves looking for something else,

Searching for some other state of mind,

Some other experience or circumstance we imagine would be preferable to the one we're presently having.

Of course,

It's quite natural to do this,

To look for things we feel will better our lives in some way.

But that searching can also give rise to subtle or not so subtle feelings of tension and unease within us.

And so,

In this meditation,

I invite you to simply be with things exactly as they are.

Just settle into a comfortable position with your eyes open or closed.

And as you settle in,

Allow yourself to relax with things however they are,

However they may be appearing to you.

As you sit here,

Many things may be present.

Sounds being heard,

Sights being seen,

Feelings being felt,

Memories being remembered,

Daydreams being heard,

And so on.

Sounds being heard,

Sights being seen,

Feelings being felt,

Memories being remembered,

Daydreams being daydreamed.

The full range of human experience is simply here,

Spontaneously occurring,

Without warning.

For these next few moments,

Rather than trying to make something happen,

Just allow yourself to appreciate how much is already happening.

Notice how many things are occurring each instant of life.

Here you are,

Awake,

Noticing whatever is being noticed,

Feeling whatever is being felt,

Seeing and hearing whatever is being seen or heard.

Feel this moment,

This flow of experience.

Feel the deep rest and relaxation of not having to find some other experience.

The relief of that,

The relief of letting this moment,

Letting yourself be.

The relief of letting this moment,

Letting yourself be as you are.

Notice how life is already here,

Without you having to lift one finger to make that so.

Just relax and appreciate this,

Appreciate how much is actually present,

How much richness is being experienced.

Just relax and appreciate this,

Appreciate how much is actually present,

How much richness is being experienced,

Without you having to go out and find it.

Maybe part of you is still searching for something else,

Looking for some better state of mind or experience.

That's fine,

Allow that to be exactly as it is as well.

There's no need to struggle with anything,

Including the sense that you're struggling,

If that's what's present.

Just let everything be whatever it is.

As we bring this meditation to a close,

Allow yourself to continue to enjoy the deep relaxation of not having to find anything other than what is already here.

Whether in meditation or your daily walk of life,

Allow yourself to stop from time to time and notice this simple yet powerful truth that it's simply not possible to find anything other than what's present right now.

Thank you.
