This meditation is ideal for kids age 2-10 (but can be practiced at any age) and helps them feel safe, centred and calm using deep breathing, imagination, and mindfulness techniques. As we gently row across the lake, kids will explore their surroundings, notice the stillness of the water and learn how breathing can help with big feelings; just like waves on the lake, emotions come and go too.

Hello my friends!

I am so excited for you to join me today on our boat adventure.

First let's just start by getting really nice and comfy cozy wherever you're sitting.

Now can you close your eyes?

And we'll just start by taking a big deep breath in and let it out.

Now with your eyes closed,

Can you imagine that we are sitting in your very own boat?

Have you ever been on a boat before?

You can use your imagination to make this boat your most favorite boat in the entire world.

What color is your boat?

What does it look like?

Is it really really big or really really small?

Notice everything about your boat that makes you feel safe and comfy inside of it.

Today we are using our boats to go on a very special lake adventure.

Are you ready?

Have you ever been to a lake before?

Maybe you can picture a lake that you've been to or if this is your first time on the lake,

How exciting!

Let's take off with our boats and start row row rowing on the lake.

What do you see around you?

Maybe you see trees along the shore.

Can you see other boats around you with other friends inside of them?

Can you wave to your friends?

And we can look up in the sky and see all of the pretty clouds and birds flying by.

Look around and see all of the beautiful colors and listen to all of the different sounds you hear.

Do you hear water splashing?

Maybe some kids playing along the shore?

Can you hear the birds singing?

The wind blowing through the trees?

And as we row row row along the lake,

Can we notice anything new?

Do you see any new animals along the shore?

I think I see a bunny rabbit.

Did you see that fish jump out of the water?

I heard the splash.

Can you hear those sounds?

Can you hear the birds chirping in the splashing water?

Okay,

Let's stop rowing for a moment and let's get really really still in our boat.

Can you look at the water?

And as we're really really still in our boat,

Can you see how still and calm the water is?

Can you hear how quiet it is?

Can you see that the water is so still and so calm it looks like a mirror?

We can gently peek over the boat and we can see ourselves in the water.

Can you wave to yourself?

As you look at yourself in the water,

Give yourself a big smile.

And just like the water,

You feel calm inside too.

Do you feel calm and relaxed just like the water?

Okay,

Now let's sit back up in our boat.

I think I feel the wind starting to blow.

Do you feel that?

Oh,

It's starting to get stronger.

It's making waves in the water and making the boat rock a little bit.

Can you feel the boat rocking?

Okay,

Now take a big deep breath in.

And let it out.

And as you let it go,

You can feel the wind slowing down and the boat getting still again.

And just like the wind and the waves,

We have lots of thoughts and big feelings sometimes.

And sometimes those big feelings can feel rocky.

But just like the water gets calm again,

You always do too.

Did you feel how when we took a big breath,

The boat calmed down and we did too?

You can do that at any time you feel big feelings that make things feel rocky and wavy.

Let's do it one more time.

Take a big breath.

Let it out.

Good job.

Oh,

What's that?

I think I hear a big loud motorboat coming by.

Can you hear that?

It's getting closer and louder.

Oh,

It's going right by us and it sounds so loud.

Let's cover our ears.

It's so loud.

It's making big waves in the water as it passes us.

Can you take another big breath in?

And let it go.

And as you let it go,

The motorboat passes by and it's getting quieter and quieter.

Can you hear it getting farther away?

The water is becoming still again.

And just like the big motorboat,

Sometimes things in our life can feel really overwhelming,

Loud or even scary.

But did you feel how when we used our big breath,

The boat passed and we felt calm again,

Just like the water?

Whenever things feel like too much,

You can always use your big breath to feel calm again,

Just like the wind comes and goes.

Just like the motorboat passed us by,

Big feelings and thoughts come and go too.

They always go away and you can always feel calm again,

Just like the water.

Okay,

My friends,

It's time to row,

Row,

Row ourselves back to the shore as our boat adventure comes to an end.

Can you take one more big,

Deep breath in?

And let it go.

And know that you always have your big breath to help you feel calm,

Just like the water on the lake.

And no matter what happens,

You can always take a deep breath and remember how peaceful and calm you are inside.

And now we can open our eyes and come back to the room that we're in.

Maybe give yourself a big hug or a big stretch,

Whatever feels good.

And thank you so much for coming on this boat adventure with me today.

I hope you feel calm and happy,

Just like the lake.

And we'll see you next time.
