Welcome to your practice today.

The theme of today's meditation is that of anger.

So,

I encourage you to get nice and comfortable with your body.

Surrender into what it is that it needs today.

Take a few moments to get comfortable,

Whether you need to lay down or you need to sit.

However it is that you arrive here in this space of meditation today,

Give yourself a moment.

Take a deep breath.

Send that breath all the way down to your feet and begin your session today by getting grounded into your space.

Feel the support of the earth beneath you.

When you're ready,

Close the windows of your eyes and hands over hearts begin the process of introducing breath into body.

Taking a deep breath in and feeling your chest swell underneath your hands.

Letting that breath go with gentleness and ease today.

Repeating this beautiful breath cycle over and over as your body grows heavy and you darken the space behind your eyes.

On your next inhalation,

I invite you to draw your mind,

Transport yourself into a space where you see yourself standing in front of a mirror.

I invite you to draw in the details of what you see here.

What does it look like?

Is the mirror gilded on the edges?

Is the glass beveled?

How do you show up here in this space?

Recognize the texture of the fabric on your skin.

Whether the air circulating around you is cool or it's warm.

And then draw your attention to the reflection that you see in the mirror.

Taking a breath in and when you feel comfortable,

Allowing yourself to scan the face of the person that you see.

Recognizing that this is not you,

But the mask of anger.

What does anger look like?

We all have attachments to anger.

This beautiful yet chaotic emotion that lives and breathes inside every single one of us.

One that society tells us to push down because it feels uncomfortable.

It feels bad.

And yet if we lean into it and we start to recognize what attachments are there,

We can heal and we can grow.

As the mask of anger starts to come into view,

What does it look like?

Draw in all of those details,

The color,

The shape,

The form.

Look at the texture of the skin and start to recognize who this person is and what is it attached to?

Maybe something is bubbling to the surface that you weren't prepared to find today and that's okay.

Emotional awareness pushes us outside of our comfort zone and it's in those beautiful chaotic spaces where we grow.

Now as you recognize this mask,

You have the authority to take this mask off,

To set it to the side,

To say I see you and I validate you as a part of me,

But I don't need you right now.

What happens when we take this mask off is often there's another one lying beneath the surface.

So as you peel back that first layer and set it over to the side,

There's a new mask that comes into view.

This new mask of anger,

What does it look like?

Who in your world does it resemble?

Often noticing the details,

The texture,

The line,

The shape,

The form,

The color of this mask,

Who does this mask belong to and what attachments does it have in your lived experience?

When it feels as though you have validated this new mask of anger,

I invite you to reach up and peel back its layer,

Taking it and putting it off to the side,

Then looking back at this reflection.

Is there another mask there?

Is there something else that needs to be uncovered,

Needs to be felt?

If it is,

That's okay.

Anger runs deep and it can be attached to so many other emotions.

They happen simultaneously within our bodies as living,

Breathing human beings.

And that's okay.

As one mask gets taken off and put over to the side,

A new mask will come.

What's important is we take time in between each mask to reflect.

So wherever you are from today,

Whatever mask you are looking at,

I invite you to grab a piece of paper and a pen or a pencil and start writing down what is this mask of anger?

What is it showing you and what can you learn?

If you need more time to write down these thoughts,

Or you need to repeat this process over and over for each individual mask of anger,

Come back here anytime that you need to or pause the recording.

Looking at and examining each individual mask is important in your emotional awareness and growth.

It's important to understand what these stories are these attachments with this emotion that feels really big.

Anger isn't a bad thing.

Anger can be passion and fire.

It can also be fear and loneliness.

And each mask that you look at in this mirror,

Each mask that you peel away,

Validate and set aside is a part of who you are.

In this space,

With these masks,

There are no bad emotions.

Just stories that need to be told,

Need to be felt and needed to be healed from.

On your next inhalation,

Sending it all the way down to your feet,

Just as we did when we began.

Starting to bring your awareness back into your physical body.

Holding those masks in your mind.

Because there's more work to do.

As you open the windows of your eyes,

I invite you to take as much time as you need to continue that reflective writing piece.

What are your masks of anger?

And what are they attached to?

What are the stories that you need to heal from?

And from today,

How can you grow?

I shattered the mirror. And something about it felt euphoric/needed. It was as if my anger was being released for all of the times it couldn’t be. Thank you for this.
