Hello,
My name is Eden and I am a therapist,
Reiki teacher,
And meditation guide.
Now whether you've found this meditation through one of my Reiki courses or just through the web of life,
Welcome.
These meditations are intended to deepen your relationship to your intuition and gifts,
And facilitate an understanding of your own internal landscape.
Each meditation is also a tool that can be offered to yourself or a client,
So I invite you to notice what shifts within you before,
During,
After,
Beyond the meditation,
Cataloging the effects with words and feelings and sensations.
Just letting yourself take note.
Allow it to be personal and universal.
Let's begin.
And today we are going to be slowly making our way through the self Reiki hand positions,
And these are outlined by William Lee Rand,
One of the leaders of the Reiki movement as it exists today.
This is a part of the Usui lineage.
So wherever you are,
Find comfort in your body.
We'll be moving through the upper hand positions today.
And know that we'll take a little bit of time at each hand position,
And Reiki recommends that you hold these positions for about three to five minutes,
And we won't do that quite as long here today,
So know that you're always welcome to pause this recording at any point if you want to hold longer.
This is really just to familiarize the flow,
Familiarize the flow.
And two,
We also recognize that true Usui Reiki involves trust and noticing where you're led through your intuition.
So if any of these hand positions don't feel true or right to you today,
That is perfect,
That is great information to have.
Where do your hands want to go?
Then place them there.
So know that that invitation is always available to you.
So go ahead and gently rub the palms together,
Creating a little bit of heat,
Noticing the sound that that produces,
Relaxing any muscles in the face that are still tense.
And then gently placing the hands over the eyes,
Making a little dome in the palms,
Just the fingertips and the base of the hand touching the face over the eyes.
Relaxing the shoulders away from the ears,
Releasing any tense muscles that you just don't need to work to hold this position.
And just breathing,
Noticing anything that comes up for you.
Relaxing the physical body over and over again.
And now we move on to another hand position,
Gently moving those same cupped hands over the ears now,
Again with that gentle dome in the palms and contact being made with the fingertips on the scalp above the ears and the base of the hand below the earlobe.
Again,
Relaxing the shoulders away from the ears.
Deep breath in,
Long breath out.
Letting yourself relax over and over again,
And notice anything that comes up.
And we continue on moving to the next hand position,
Placing the palms on the top of the head,
And the fingertips meet right at that crown,
Right at that soft spot on the skull.
And the base of the palms end up being somewhere right above the ears,
Holding the head.
Again,
Relaxing any muscles that are tense and that you just don't need in order to maintain this hand position.
The more you can relax,
The more energy can flow.
What do you notice?
And moving on now,
We bring those palms to the back of the head.
The middle fingers still meet about halfway down the head,
And the palms splay out towards the base of the head where the neck and head meet.
Right at the base of the skull there,
You might be able to feel two little divots,
Maybe right underneath the base of each thumb,
And seeing if you can just settle in there,
Knowing that everyone's head and skull are a little different.
So more than anything,
Just finding a little bit of comfort,
Feeling for something that feels a little natural.
While this hand position can be a little strange,
As we contort the body to hold the back of the head,
Where can you find comfort within it?
Relaxing any muscles of the face,
Neck,
Shoulders,
Belly that have tensed up.
Softening and opening.
Notice what's here.
No judgment,
No stories,
No expectation,
No clouding of what is here.
Can you just notice what's here?
And we gently move on now to the next hand position,
Placing one palm over the heart center,
Right in the middle of the chest.
And the other hand goes to the front of the neck,
Holding the neck in a way that feels comfortable for you.
And for some,
This might just be the fingertips grazing the jaw without the palm making contact with the neck directly.
And for some,
That might be a full grip of the neck,
Really light and gentle,
Feeling into that pulse,
Feeling the breath as it moves down and back up through the neck.
Watching all the little muscles tense and then asking them to relax through the jaw and the neck.
And if this hand position still just doesn't feel good to you,
That is okay.
That is important information.
You're welcome to just bring that second palm over the first at the heart.
Can you let the body relax,
Open,
Release?
Right here.
And moving on now to the final upper hand position,
Where both palms move onto the shoulders.
I recommend left palm on left shoulder,
That trap muscle between the neck and outer shoulder.
And right palm to right shoulder.
Instead of crossing over the body,
Which can feel like more of a closure of the system.
And if that position feels better,
Sometimes it can feel like a supportive hug instead of an energetic closure,
Trust yourself.
Offer that to yourself.
And relaxing any muscles that you do not need in order to hold this position.
Relaxing those muscles in the face yet again,
Those muscles in the belly.
And with your next exhale,
Gently letting the palms float down to the knees,
Releasing any hand positions,
Palms facing up or down.
Up if you'd like to receive,
Down if you'd like to release.
And just taking a few slow,
Deep breaths here.
These hand positions are useful for anyone,
Not just a Reiki practitioner,
As they help establish presence with yourself.
The more you can notice about yourself in the present moment,
The more power you have to shift and change and grow and adapt and evolve.
And while symptoms in our bodies,
In our minds are built in one way or another from the past,
We only experience them in the present.
So if we have a relationship with our present self,
Which can include any symptoms,
That is where we have the ability to start to change,
Through just this inherent act of noticing,
Of being with what is.
The symptom only exists in the present.
So there will always be benefit in getting to know the version of you that is right here,
Today,
In this moment.
Can you relax this body?
Can you find a moment of peace in this mind?
Knowing this practice is going to the mental gym,
Not a quick fix.
And there is longevity here.
So thank you for making time in your day to just be with you,
To hold you,
To offer love and care and presence to you.
Can you feel some thanks,
Some gratitude for yourself right now?
And rejoining the day when you are ready.
