This meditation will help cultivate present-moment awareness while keeping the eyes gently open. This technique encourages a soft gaze and heightened awareness of your surroundings without engaging with them. It’s especially useful for developing focus, grounding, and calm in everyday situations where you can’t close your eyes—like walking, working, or commuting.

Hi my friend,

This is a unique practice that I don't know if I've ever guided something like this before.

So join me on a different meditation practice where we keep the eyes open.

This practice is meant to really reorient you in your space.

And just practice the neutral observer,

Taking in your surroundings without any judgment.

And maybe you'll discover a little bit of peace and joy.

Find a comfortable space in your home,

Maybe next to a window,

Or in your favorite corner of your home.

With the eyes open,

Just gently start to connect with your breath.

Inhaling deeply,

Exhaling fully.

For now,

Don't think about it too much,

Just allow your eyes to rest.

Try to slow down the pace of your eyes as you gently look around.

Allow your eyes to land on something that brings you joy.

Breathe in the energy of what you see.

Slowly,

Gently move your eyes onto something that brings you peace.

If you're near a window,

Begin to look outside and just allow the texture of nature to soothe your nervous system.

What do you see?

And how does it make you feel?

Just allow yourself to drift into nature,

Into the trees,

The grass,

The sun,

The sky.

Bringing yourself back into the room that you are in,

Slowly looking around,

Looking over your left shoulder and looking over your right shoulder,

Taking in your surroundings.

You are here.

Despite what it looks like,

You can feel peace within.

And with your eyes wide open,

You can see the empty space between all the objects around you.

You can see and notice and feel that you are here.

What a gift it is to be here,

To see,

To experience,

To take in.

My friend,

You can carry this practice with you.

Opening your eyes,

Breathing deeply,

Taking in all that is around you without any judgment,

Without any desire to fix or change.

Just see it for exactly what it is.

Breath in,

Breath out.

Allow your eyes to rest once more on something that brings you a sense of lightness,

Ease,

Calm.

Maybe finding a soft smile,

Allow this energy to wash over you.

Breath in,

If it feels right,

Placing a hand or two over your heart,

And only if you'd like,

Close your eyes now.

Take inventory of your inner world,

Your energy,

Remembering what you saw around you,

Outside of you.

Just notice what's present now.

Thank your eyes for,

They allow you to see,

To feel,

To be here.

Blink your eyes open if you decided to close them,

And carry this practice with you.

Go slowly,

Go gently,

From my heart to yours.

I wanted to close my eyes so much early on, and then when the invitation came to close them I did, and suddenly wanted them open! Learning to be in the moment, loving what is - it’s a journey! Great “different” practice.
