This guided practice is a soft and gentle exploration of what it means to let go. After grounding into this present moment, listeners are invited to consider where it is possible to let go within the body before achieving softening within the mind. This includes softening our urgency to "rid" ourselves of something undesirable. Instead, can we be open to and compassionate with what is here?

Hello and welcome to this guided meditation on letting go.

This meditation is an invitation to gently soften,

To gently release whatever asks to be surrendered in this moment.

It is not a meditation for uncovering everlasting relief as life will continue to ebb and flow as we go.

Instead it is to be used as an exploration of where it might be possible to free up some energy within this present moment.

So I invite you to begin by finding a comfortable seated or lying down position.

Let the spine be straight,

The chest open and the shoulders relaxed.

Then the forehead,

The jaw,

The shoulders and the belly.

As you land comfortably and gently into this space.

And then tune into the natural flow of your breath.

Taking just a few moments of silence here to continually arrive to ground yourself deeper into this meditation.

And then see if you might let the breath deepen.

If it's not yet arriving in the base of the belly.

If you'd like to you can place one or both hands on your stomach.

Finally welcoming the breath to fill this space completely.

And then gently allow the breath to resume its natural pace and depth.

If keeping the breath arriving again and again into the belly is comfortable for you,

I invite you to continue this deep breathing.

But soften your focus on this type of breath.

Letting it be as it is in each and every moment.

And I invite you now to explore where you might let go within the body.

So starting from the head,

Scanning the body downwards.

See where you might feel called to soften any contraction or tension.

Perhaps inviting a loving or healing breath into this area.

And then releasing whatever is there as you exhale.

See if you arrive at a place of tension where something doesn't soften.

See if you can instead let go of your urgency for that tension to be absent from your body.

Instead of letting it go,

Can you let the mind go?

Continue to scan the body slowly downwards.

Softening each area that you pass.

And then hold your entire body in your awareness.

Trying it to melt a little bit further into this space that holds you.

If any thoughts or stories arise in the mind,

Which they will from time to time.

See if you can let these go by inviting them into the heart for release.

You can refrain from judging any thought wave or story as being good or bad,

Right or wrong.

Regardless of its qualities,

Simply let it go into the heart.

If it doesn't serve you in this moment.

And as you draw all thoughts and all stories into the heart.

Begin to breathe through this space.

Allowing the heart to expand with each inhalation.

And to melt a little bit further with each exhalation.

See if you can let the heart be unconditionally in this moment,

This time,

This space.

Letting go is not about releasing perceived imperfections.

Or about being unaffected by the world around us.

So be mindful of where you may judge yourself for being unable to release a feeling,

An emotion or an experience.

Seeing if through the energy of compassion you can soften your desire to change this experience.

In other words,

Where it's not possible to let go of the emotion just yet.

Can you release the mental story about this experience,

About this emotion?

Can you allow yourself to open up wholeheartedly to whatever is here?

And if this is challenging or brings up difficult feelings,

Continue to root yourself into this moment with each breath.

Breathing and softening with each full cycle.

Continue to invite all thoughts and all stories into the heart.

Letting them melt away for this moment alone.

Given that this moment is all we can ever work with.

We cannot control how we will think or feel in moments to come.

But we can practice this softening again and again in each unfolding moment.

And I invite you now to return your attention to the breath.

If your attention is elsewhere at the moment.

Drawing your awareness as well as the belly,

Seeing if you can fill this space completely on each inhalation.

Surrendering all muscles in the body completely with each exhalation.

Continue to breathe deeply,

Perhaps letting go with a sigh with each exhalation.

And to close this practice,

Bring your hands to your heart,

Either in prayer position or resting on top of your chest.

Taking a moment to honor and thank yourself for this practice.

To thank yourself for showing up unconditionally no matter what is here.

And for tending to yourself completely.

And you can take a few moments at the end of this meditation now to simply let yourself root back into this space this time.

Slowly making your way back into the world around you.

Thank you so much for practicing with me today.

I wish you a beautiful day.
