A guided meditation for parents who want to survive this holiday season, keep their cool and decompress from life's little miracles (and their sometimes little annoying attitudes) This meditation is really helpful for parents who need to chill out before - or in between - the following "gifts" from their kids: - tantrums - whining - fighting with siblings - sugar highs - sugar crashes - saying inappropriate things to relatives - yelling at you - being really adorable in spite of all the above

Ho,

Ho,

Holy shit,

Kids,

Shut up!

Okay,

Moms,

Dads,

This one is for you.

You're now sitting in your bedroom after a long day,

Or maybe you've escaped to the bathroom to cry.

Maybe this is before you get into another long day of kids home from school and on sugar highs.

So take a seat,

Take some me time,

Unclench those fists,

Put back the hair that you just pulled out,

And take a deep breath in through your nose.

For as long as you want,

Hold that at the top,

And on the exhale,

Let go of anything that has triggered you from your kids.

Take another inhale,

Hold,

Exhale.

Be mindful of that sound.

It's not somebody asking for something,

Fighting over a toy,

Crying,

Breaking another ornament.

That's the sound of quiet.

And allow that quiet to power you through this meditation.

Each inhale,

You're taking in you time,

Calming,

Positive energy,

Serenity.

Maybe it's just quiet.

Breathe that in,

Hold it at the top,

Let it sink in,

And exhale,

Letting go of any more tension.

Close your eyes if you haven't already and scan your body,

See if there's anything that's still tight.

Clenched fists,

The knot in your stomach.

I can't believe they said that.

None of that matters right now,

Just take another deep breath in,

Calming energy,

Me time energy,

Let it sink in,

And exhale,

You're letting go of all that crap from today,

Or that you fear you're going to get into today.

Keep the pattern of breathing now.

It's a little more shallow perhaps.

You don't have to force it.

You get to just be.

If you start to think about your to-do list,

Or things you forgot to do,

Anything that causes you anxiety,

Just label that as a thought,

And return to your breath,

Inhaling,

Holding,

And exhaling.

Continue to inhale and exhale,

Gently celebrating me time.

Be mindful of the incredible amount of patience that you have.

Sometimes it's easier to access that than others.

This time,

This me time is giving you that chance to carry that patience with you throughout the day.

So on the next inhale,

Allow that to just be an inhale.

And on the exhale,

It's just an exhale.

You get to just be right now.

Continue breathing.

Label any thoughts,

Thoughts,

And return to your breath.

Be mindful of the joy that your kids bring to you,

The pure joy,

The joy not attached to a cookie or to a present.

Instead,

The joy of their laughter or their hugs.

Just inhale that in,

Let that sink in,

And on the exhale,

Let go of any remaining anxiety that we may have about this season.

Go ahead and take a big deep inhale.

Hold it at the top and exhale.

Send the breath through all the parts of your body.

Wiggle your fingers and toes and exhale.

Rotate side to side,

Roll your shoulders back and forth,

Your head side to side.

When you're ready,

Gently open your eyes.

And remember,

You can access patience anytime you need it or every time you need it,

As the case may be.

You can walk away,

Go to another room,

Take a few deep breaths,

And then respond.

And even if the response is still,

No,

You can't have another one,

Please stop,

At least you'll have that response with a little bit more patience.

Thank you for taking a seat and taking some me time with Meditation for Assholes.
