Of all the guided meditations I’ve tried over the years, this is my favorite by far. The sounds of trains have always had a special place in my heart, even before they had many memories attached to them, & in every city I’ve lived, my home has always been close to the tracks (&, if possible, close enough to water to hear the low, mournful horn of the barges as well.)
The rhythm of the train beautifully enhances the hypnotic & relaxing effect of this meditation. Though it’s not technically a sound of nature, it is far more soothing than the metronome-like rhythms I usually need in order to include EMDR (moving my eyes back & forth behind my eyelids, with my eyes closed, works almost as well as with them open) into my morning meditation (& i highly recommend
it to those people with dissociative disorders, who, like myself, are trying to reconnect with themselves, &/or gain control over chronic anxiety attacks.)
Kim Carmen Welsh’s guidance feels easy & natural to follow, & I deeply appreciate her calm, gentle, yet REAL, speaking voice. I’ve immediately abandoned many other guided meditations because of the tendency for some guides to attempt to lower or deepen their voice, elooooongate each word, & add patronizing affectations- like obviously adopted/false accents to their voice- in an attempt to sound more “soothing”, or perhaps more “sophisticated”(?). But its effect on me is just to make me think of an actor, insisting on playing their role in My Fair Lady or Oliver, despite being heavily sedated; or, more accurately, the blonde hippie lady in the muppet’s band! So, a big thank you to Kim Carmen Welsh for your authenticity!
