Meditation on 1 of the 12 spiritual principles of 12 step programs, letting go = faith. We dive deeply into what wild, wholehearted trust in something might look like for us. We use both breathwork and the sound of the bell to draw us back to the present each breath, while letting go of what holds us back from unconditional love and trust (in ourselves, in our relations, in a higher power). We finish with a send-off benediction that illuminates what we can do today, with our newly found trust.

Welcome to Agadir meditation in the 12 step tradition.

Today we focus on the spiritual principle of trust.

Let's begin by focusing our attention on the sound of the bell.

Listen as it fades into silence.

Wherever you may be,

Become comfortable closing your eyes.

Each time as the sound gently fades,

Imagine yourself letting go through your breath.

Letting go of any negativity that is mounted throughout the day,

Any preoccupation or resentment.

We will find ourselves coming back to the sound of the bell throughout this meditation.

To begin,

We explain our intention for this short meditation.

Why choose trust as one of the 12 spiritual principles?

Without trust,

There is no community,

No quality relationships.

Therefore,

Our intention for this meditation is to explore what wholehearted trust,

Trusting with our whole heart,

Our whole mind,

Our whole being,

What that might look like for us.

This is a very individual meditation in which I'll ask you to imagine what each of our parts might be in fully trusting.

There will be a brief statement along with the sound of each bell that you might allow to resonate as you silently let go and at the same time deepen the idea that I share,

Allowing it to permeate into your thoughts and your breath.

Begin with a deep breath.

Practice letting go on the out-breath.

Breathing in wisdom.

Letting go of anything holding us back on the out-breath.

Breathing in unconditional love.

Again,

Letting go on the out-breath.

Listen,

Listen.

What might trust sound like to you?

We begin with trust in ourselves.

Trust that we are able to be present in this one moment.

To do so,

Paradoxically,

Staying awake comes not from our own willpower,

But from surrender,

Wholehearted surrender,

To this moment,

Just as it is.

Trust in your ability is largely a matter of letting go.

Letting go of the resistance to embrace what this moment offers.

Trust.

Trust.

Let's go of clinging to the past.

Be it joyous or difficult.

We have full acceptance of the full reality of what is right here and right now.

Trust.

Trust is breathing in and breathing out.

Breathing in the reality,

The fullness of what surrounds you at this moment.

And letting go on the out-breath of that which is to come.

Letting go of any anxiety or worry about what you may have to do next.

If we can be truly present,

We will no doubt experience what most of us mean by unconditional loving presence or higher power.

We are letting go of that which holds us back from connection.

Take a moment to imagine unconditional letting go and trust of that loving presence.

What would it look like for you?

Can you imagine anything which is holding us back,

Preventing us from letting go and trusting?

Once we've identified that something,

We find that trust is really about willingness.

Are we willing to let go?

Be it our fears,

Our ego,

The identity that we've constructed for ourselves.

Are we willing to let go of that which we are holding onto?

The next few bells you will meet with silence and consider these few things which may be holding you back from unconditional trust.

And continue to breathe out,

Letting them go.

And we will close after a small bell with the sending off benediction.

Thank you.

I now send you forth with a small gift to my higher power,

To that infinite love.

I ask that you make me your hands and feet to those in need in my immediate field of vision today.

Please allow me to trust that you'll show me the way to best serve in this fleeting time that you've gifted me today.

With all my freedom,

All my free will,

Let me use it wisely to pass on your unconditional love.

So that in this journey,

I may say with every breath permeating my spirit,

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I trust.

I trust.

I trust.

And may peace carry with you.

Carry on to others.
