Being pregnant can be a time of great joy and also great change and overwhelm. Use this short practice to slow down with yourself and to feel into the heart centre. Taking time to listen and care for the heart.

Love is the lesson that children bring us.

In this world of success and achievement,

We can lose sight of what is truly important – our capacity to love and our need to be loved.

This is the path of the heart.

And it is the gift of being a woman.

As we prepare for motherhood,

We prepare for a new step in the journey.

Use this time now to prepare your heart.

Beginning with the feeling of the breath at your chest.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

Knowing and feeling the in-breath.

Knowing and feeling the out-breath.

As you settle into the flow of your breath,

Feel your heart centre.

In whatever way feels right for you,

See if you can sense or feel the rhythm of your own heartbeat.

What feelings,

Sensations or emotions are located there?

Heaviness,

Lightness,

Joy,

Sadness,

Anxiety,

Peacefulness,

Anticipation,

Fear.

Whatever you might find,

Can you hold and allow the emotions there to be felt and held?

Just as you might rock and cradle your own child,

Can you embrace your own heart as it is?

The heart has a huge capacity to give and receive love.

It also has a huge capacity to hold things just as they are.

The mind can convince us that we are unable to cope with the range of human experience.

But the heart knows the wisdom of just allowing.

So allow your heart to teach you about loving yourself.

Embracing all parts of you with compassion and acceptance.

Now place your hands on your belly.

See if you can feel the movement of the breath just beneath your hands.

Be with your baby with mind,

Body and spirit.

The yoga master Yogi Bhajan said,

What a child learns in the womb cannot be learnt on earth.

What do you have to reveal to your baby now?

Can you send him or her the wisdom of your heart,

Love,

Acceptance,

Warmth and compassion?

Take some time to honour the miracle of your baby by sitting in stillness in this special way.

If your mind wanders off into fear,

Anxiety,

Planning,

Commentary,

Just gently bring your attention back to honouring this miracle here,

Now.

And so when you're ready,

Sending the abandoned capacity of your heart to love outwards now towards your partner.

You do not need to contrive this.

The heart opens bit by bit.

For now,

Sending kindness and compassion to him as he is.

Another human being on this earth who is learning about love.

And finally,

Sending your loving intention into the future,

Visualising for yourself this capacity to love,

Extending towards the birth experience.

Love is about allowing.

Can you take time now to imagine holding the birth experience in your heart and allowing it to be as it is?

Trusting in your highest power that it will unfold as it needs to and that you have within you all power and strength and wisdom to cope.

With love,

All things are possible.
