This short meditation will help you unwind the mind through relaxed intentional self-inquiry and a reorientation to the thinking mind. This reflective practice will guide you in letting thoughts pass freely and invite you to rest in the open awareness of your true nature. Using concentration, pendulation, and insight to unhook from the trap of over-identification of thoughts. May it meet you with open awareness.

Welcome.

Let's take a few minutes and unwind the mind a little.

Take a deep breath in.

Exhale and relax any areas of tension in the body.

Let your attention meet your arms and your shoulders,

Your legs and your feet.

Softening the area around the eyes,

The cheeks,

And your mouth.

A busy mind tends to constrict the body.

And through the breath,

We will loosen.

Whatever has been heavy on your mind,

Whatever thoughts have been present,

What are you trying to solve for?

What is the big question underneath it all?

What relief are you seeking?

And simply notice what arises when you become aware of the thinking mind.

Is it difficult to focus?

Is it hard to sit still?

Is it overwhelming?

Distracting?

What happens when the mind feels full and heavy,

Or wound and restless?

What's it like for you?

What do you notice?

Bring to mind the most dominant thought or the most frequent.

I have so much to do.

I don't know where to start.

Any thought at all that feels disruptive.

And hold it.

Hold the one thought in your mind that feels most familiar.

Who's telling this story?

Who is narrating here?

And if you weren't telling this story in quite the same way,

What would you change?

What would shift?

What would happen if there was nothing to do?

Nothing to solve?

Nothing to overcome?

Who would you be without these thoughts?

Who would you be?

And if another thought enters,

Let it.

Let it.

What if you created some room between the thought itself and the impulse to follow?

Now ask yourself the following.

Who am I when I watch?

When I see myself thinking?

Who am I when I notice that thinking is happening?

And who am I without this thought?

Resting in the awareness of thought as it happens and thought as it leaves.

Sensing the space and the flow and the changing nature of all things.

Remembering the space between the person telling the story and the story itself.

In the space of our being,

Our true nature resides.

You are not your thoughts,

Your story,

Or your circumstance.

You are the one who rests in the greater awareness of it all.

In the vastness you remember.

In your heart you remember.

You are more than the mind.

Let it unwind.

Let it unwind.

Let it unwind.
