The Sanskrit word for breath, is prāṇa and it means "life force", or "vital principle" - how beautiful.  This simple breathwork meditation invites you to consider + contemplate the miracle + wonder of breathing. Become consciously aware of + maybe even have gratitude for your breath - your life force. For breath is life, so if you breathe well you will live long on earth. – Sanskrit Proverb

Hello and welcome to your meditation for today.

My name is Nicky and I am the Slow Coaching Co-Founder and you might hear the rain pitter-patter on my roof as you settle in for this meditation today.

And a good friend of mine always used to refer to the rain as liquid sunshine and I love this reframe of something that often causes a bit of panic or distress amongst people,

Especially if you're rushing from place to place and your hair is all in place and the rain threatens to make that hair,

Every little strand that you so carefully placed in its place into a bit of a frizzy mess.

Maybe that's just me but wherever you're at right now just take a moment to listen into the surroundings to what is around you.

Maybe what is around you is just the thoughts in your head and you're feeling a bit chaotic and if that is the case then take this opportunity and take this moment to maybe think about a way that you can you can reframe some of those thoughts and you can maybe just be a bit more compassionate and kind to yourself.

And so today's meditation is about practicing the art of being present in each moment and so as you settle in here you ground down into each of your sit bones,

Find yourself in a comfortable seat,

Get as comfortable as you can be,

Acknowledge yourself for showing up here today for yourself and know that for the next couple of minutes you don't need to be anywhere else.

So if you've got one of those watches that buzzes when your messages come through or your calls come through then I encourage you to remove that.

I encourage you to turn the notifications off of your phone and just shut down your eyes now and just land and just take a moment to be super still.

Relax here,

Settle in and draw your attention inward,

Focus your attention on the rhythm of your breath,

Any thoughts that are worrying around your head just acknowledge them,

Observe them without any judgment,

Let them go on their way.

Get yourself as present as you can be in this very moment.

I recently read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and one thing that stood out to me was that if you try to predict what's going to happen next there is no way that you can actually predict it and if you focus your attention in on what is going to happen in the next moment you're actually focusing your attention in on the present moment,

On this moment that we have right now.

So in this moment,

Focusing on your breath,

Let the rhythm of the rain lull you into a sense of calm,

Into a sense of safety,

Knowing that there's nowhere else that you need to be but right here,

Right now in this very moment.

With each breath that you take,

Focus on small breathing,

Smoothing it out,

Lengthening each breath so that your inhale and your exhale are equal in length.

Each breath will be slightly longer,

Deeper,

More intentional than your regular breathing.

Allow yourself to just be.

Take a couple more rounds of breath and in your own time,

Give your shoulders a nice juicy shrug,

Bring your hands through your heart center,

Bow your head to your hands acknowledging that you've just taken some time to be.

You've taken time to get present,

To not be distracted,

To not have your attention be pulled in every which way.

What a joy.

The light in me sees the light in you.

Allow yourself to come out and open your eyes when you're ready.

Namaste.
