This technique allows you to connect with your breath from the palm of your hand. A beautiful anchor for when you are feeling numb & overwhelmed (dorsal vagal state) as our breath is an open connection with our nervous system and your hand provides the structure for your stressed mind. Hi,

Welcome to this simple practice.

I want you to gently bring your left hand up so that the palm is facing you,

And then with your right hand just take your right index finger and place it at the base of your thumb.

Now,

Tuning into your breath,

As you breathe in I want you to trace up the side of your thumb.

As you reach the top,

Hold for just a second,

And then as you breathe out trace back down into the palm.

Breathing in,

We go up the index finger,

Holding for just a second at the top,

And then dropping back down with an out breath.

Breathing in,

Up the middle finger,

And breathing out down the other side of the middle finger.

Breathing in,

Holding at the top of the ring finger,

And breathing out.

And breathing in,

We go up the little finger,

And breathing out,

We come down the outside of the little finger,

And around the palm,

Back to the base of the thumb.

Now,

Take your time to trace the hand at a speed that feels good for you.

Remembering as you breathe in,

You trace up,

Hold for just a second,

And breathe out as you trace down.

Take it at your own pace,

Don't worry if your mind gets distracted,

Come back to where your finger is on the hand,

And use that as your anchor point and your guide.

Connecting in,

Breathing in and out,

Allowing your body to feel the safety of this present moment,

And the gentle touch as your finger traces your hand.

You're doing a beautiful job,

Well done.

Brilliant.

And just gently allow both your hands to drop back down.

Notice how you feel,

Notice if there's anything you want to do following this little mindfulness technique,

And give yourself permission to go do that.

Wishing you a beautiful day,

I hope to see you back here again soon.

Take care of yourself.

What an avenue for accessing stillness, and a deeper sensory awareness of what is around you in the moment.
