Hey everyone!

Welcome back to another episode of Try With Tess where we are exploring practical tools for living more healthier and happier life.

I'm your host Tess and today I am super excited because we are going to talk about one of my absolute favorite techniques for dealing with stress and also tough emotions and it's EFT tapping.

You may also kind of like heard of it or seen maybe people do it and you thought like what is this tapping thing all about and does it really work?

Well,

Let me tell you.

I was also skeptical at first to trying it but once I tried it I was amazed at how something so simple can actually make such a big difference in how you feel.

So today we are going to dive into what EFT tapping is,

How it works and also why you might want to give it a try and trust me it's so much easier than it looks and you can literally do it anywhere even like in your car during a lunch break.

So what is EFT tapping?

So let's break it down.

EFT tapping stands for emotional freedom technique which is kind of like a fancy name but at its core it's really simple and it is a method that combines the principles of ancient Chinese medicine with kind of like modern psychology because you are tapping on specific points in your body like acupuncture points but instead of needles.

Thankfully you are just using your fingers to tap and what's like the coolest part about EFT tapping is that you don't need any special equipment or like a training.

You can start using it right away and it's super like handy to dealing with everyday stress,

Also with anxiety or even it can help with physical pain like how many times have you felt anxious before like a big meeting or big presentation and after I don't know you just felt so overwhelmed that you can't even say a word.

I know I've been there and tapping is such a great way how to calm yourself down.

I like to think of EFT tapping like as a reset button for your emotions because you are basically tapping on these points while you are focusing on whatever is like bothering you.

Maybe you are feeling anxious,

Maybe you are just overwhelmed and by tapping you are helping your body to let go of those negative feelings and it's like telling your body hey it's okay you can basically relax now.

So why it works?

Okay you might be right now thinking all right I get the tapping thing but how does this actually work?

Because this is a really great question and when you are stressed or when you are anxious your body's energy flows can get all messed up and tapping helps balance that energy while you are calming down your nervous system.

At the same time and here's the science when we are stressed our bodies go into fight or flight mode right and cortisol levels like kind of go up your heart rates and it's like your brain is telling your body it's a danger even if just something I don't know an overdue email or a presentation and by tapping on these specific points where you are focusing on what is stressing you out you are sending a signal to your brain that is saying hey it's cool there is no real danger here we can now calm down and what I found super interesting when I first started when I first started tapping is there have been studies that show that it can actually reduce your cortisol levels and that's why so many people are using it for stress relief and I don't know about you but I could use a cortisol lowering button in my life sometimes and maybe also right now who knows and we should get right into the tapping points because there are eight main points where we are focusing on and these are all areas where energy tends to get blocked and when you are feeling stressed or when you are overwhelmed so the first point is side of your hand you know this flashy part on the side of your hand under the pinky so you should tap there it's called also like the karate chop I have the feeling so you always start here the second point is top of your head so gently you're going to tap now on the center of your head right on the top of your head the third point is your eyebrow where your eyebrow begins right near your nose the fourth point is side of your eye just at the corner of your eye on the bone the fifth is under the eye so under the bone right under your eye then the sixth is under the nose tap into that little area between your nose and your upper lip the seventh point is chin so right into the little limp under your lower lip the eighth point is the collarbone so tap where your collarbone meets your chest the ninth point is under the arm so about like four inches under your armpit in line with your bra strap or for you who don't wear bra it's around mid torso and don't worry if it sounds like a little bit complicated at first once you get the hang of it it becomes super easy and very natural and you can even do it with your eyes closed once you get very comfortable let's tap together we are going to do a simple like tapping session together so if as you are somewhere in a quiet space you can do this along with me if no no worries you can always come back to this later so first things first think about something what is bothering you right now maybe it's a stress from work maybe you have a negative um toll maybe you have worry or maybe even you have a headache so you got it okay cool now rate how intense that feeling is on a scale from zero to ten where ten is like the super intense and zero means not at all okay this will help to track your progress so just set this rate and now we're going to go into tapping we always start with tapping on the side of the hand yeah the charity chop point when we are going to say what's called a setup statement so it can be something like even though i feel now we are going to say the problem i deeply and completely accept myself so for example even though i feel anxious i deeply and completely accept myself for example even though i feel anxious about my presentation tomorrow i deeply and completely accept myself now repeat this three times while you are tapping even though i feel anxious i deeply and completely accept myself even though i feel i deeply and completely accept myself even though i feel i deeply and completely accept myself i know this part might feel a little bit weird at first but just roll with it the whole point is to acknowledge the problem and remind yourself that it's completely yourself that it's completely okay to feel what you're feeling now we are going to tap through the points i mentioned earlier so you are going to gently tap on each point and while you do you are saying reminder phase like this stress this worry this anxiety okay so tap on your top of your head this anxiety move to your eyebrow move to your eyebrow this anxiety and just keep going tapping on each point and saying your reminder phase i will say it out loud or i also like to say it out loud but if you're in public or somewhere else you don't need to speak you can just think in in your mind so now side of the eye this anxiety this anxiety this anxiety under the eye under the nose this anxiety the chin this anxiety then the collarbone this anxiety now on the side this anxiety and after one round of tapping stop for a moment and check in with yourself and now you can also rate the intensity of your feeling again so has it dropped a little is it like instead of eight it's maybe seven and great and if it's still high you can do another round of tapping and you just keep going until the intensity lowers so now you can also do another round and another round okay so what you can actually use eft tapping for honestly the possibilities i think are endless because i'm using it like almost every day and here are some common uses for eft tapping so stress relief like i said earlier it's perfect for those moments when life feels overwhelming whether it's like your work your school or maybe just a daily life then you can also use it for anxiety i use it when i felt nervous about something or when i had like a big presentation and it really helps calm my mind the third what you can use it for is physical pain i know that people who tap for things like headaches or tensions in your body they can also get this relief then the negative emotion so if you are feeling like sad angry or frustrated a little bit tapping can really help to process these emotions and then also limiting values because this is a big one guys listen tapping is amazing for helping to clear out like these negative beliefs like i am not good enough or i will never be successful okay and get this you can tap just for a few minutes when you're on the go you can also spend longer sessions where you're working on some deeper issues and for example you might be thinking okay but does this really work well let me show a couple of stories one of my friends also used tapping to help her deal with the fear of public speaking and after a few sessions of tapping before her presentation she said that she felt way calmer and more confident and also me personally i use it for almost everything for reducing the work stress with helping with the physical pain after a long day and the more you practice the better you will feel and also it's not like some magic trick but it really does help clear away all the emotional noise that you are carrying around the day and also i have some small tips for you if you want to start so start with something simple so you can also choose like a small issue to tap so for example if you are feeling annoyed or if you are feeling stress or and see how it actually feels and yeah you can just start with something small then second thing is to be consistent like anything the more you practice the more comfortable you will get the third point is trust the process i know it can also feel strange at first but you keep tapping and many people feel like a shift after just a few rounds the fourth tip is to stay open-minded even if it seems a little bit odd it's worth giving a go you may be so much surprised how much you feel better after just doing one round and i think that was it for today's episode i hope that this intro for eft tapping has also give you something and also maybe inspired you to try it for yourself and remember it's all about self-care and taking time to release the things that no longer serves us and if you enjoy this episode feel free to share it with someone you think could benefit from tapping you can also leave a review which really helps for me to grow and reach more people looking for stress relief tools thank you for tuning in and i can't wait to hear how eft tapping works for you until next time take care and keep tapping into your emotional freedom thank you for listening
