So let's settle onto our mats and start meditating again.
Everybody find a comfortable,
Stable position on your mats that allows your spine to remain erect,
Your neck to remain erect,
While your body is still relaxed.
As you settle into this,
Slowly close your eyes.
And then narrow down your awareness to the area of the larger triangle,
From the top of the nose down to the corners of the mouth.
And then just start to test and see how sharp your mind is.
Can you move to the smaller triangle?
From the tips of your nose,
Tips of your nostrils,
Down to the top of your mouth.
The smaller inverted triangle.
Can you move your mind to the small circle beneath the nostrils,
Beneath the septum?
Can you move your mind to the pinprick,
The tip of the nose?
Start to see how long you can maintain your focus and your immovability without any of your habit patterns moving you off-center.
How long can you maintain the awareness of the breath-full?
Can you do it for the whole sit?
And now that we've started to develop heightened awareness and we can see things in more detail and more clearly,
Now maybe we can see other layers of these patterns too,
Of these distractions.
The second thing it gives us the opportunity to do when we face a distraction is to flex the muscle that helps to control the mind,
That gives us the use of our mind.
As we flex this muscle,
Our awareness comes back to our breath,
Wherever it is that we've closed off the area of the breath,
The area of awareness.
Every single time we do this allows our mind to become stronger and sharper,
Allows us to reset the balance of the relationship between ourselves and our mind.
So mark out the area that you want to start practicing within and test it to see just how sharp your mind can become,
Just how immovable can your mind become.
Now let's practice in silence and see how long we can stay focused for,
Using every opportunity where we're distracted as an opportunity to learn more about our unconscious patterns and to flex the muscle that strengthens this connection with our mind.
