Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali: Samaadhi Paad - Meditation For Self Realization

With Sherrie Wade (Shree)

The course is perfect for yoga and meditation teachers and meditation practitioners who want to understand the genesis of the yogic system that leads you to the true meaning of yoga, oneness alone. The key Sanskrit verses will be pronounced and repeated for the vibrational sounds that unfold in your being and for you to learn them. These verses in Sanskrit create the very space of the meaning of each verse. Repetition of them is a meditation alone that leads to samadhi (deep transcendence of the mind). Then, knowing and understanding the meaning of each sutra or verse will allow you to use this in your daily life to bring you into the direct experience of peacefulness and ease. Patanjali leads us into the state of Kaivalya, Oneness Alone, or Enlightenment.

Lesson 3

Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali, Class 3, Chapter 1, Verses 17-18

The Sanskrit is sung with the word-for-word meaning. These sutras, or verses, describe the stages one goes through while meditating. As soon as you close your eyes, the meditation begins as you no longer see outside images and make impressions. You are now seeing with your inner eye the space in front of your closed eyes. The five stages of samaadhi are: Virark - physical, the gross sensory level, Vichar - thought, the inner subtle level, Aanand - bliss, the instrumental level of ego, Asmita - am-ness, the subjective level, and Asampragyaat - formless meditation or samaadhi without seed.

These sutras or verses give you the means to know the ultimate truth of your being. Here it is called ritumbhara pragyaa. Shree sings the Sanskrit for you to have the vibrational meaning of these verses and then gives the word-for-work meaning and literary meaning. She then describes how to understand these verses from the perspective of the one who is living in this awareness. She quotes her guru Swami-ji giving his methods geared to knowing the difference between the mind and the Self and to accept that which is guided by the Self. Then your can rest in your own awareness of the truth of who you are as the bliss of the Self.

Enjoyed the sanskrit followed by the word for word translation as this made the text very easy to follow. The meditation practice after was very profound and is something I will keep going back to.
