Today we are going to work with a mantra that combines really easily with the breath.

This mantra,

So Hum or Hang Sa is one of the most powerful mantras among all mantras and it is deceptively simple.

So,

Let's get started.

Take a deep breath in through your nose,

Making sure that your spine is long.

If you're seated,

Your hips are slightly higher than your knees.

And then deep sigh,

Exhale out,

Imagine exhaling out through the centers of your legs into the core of the earth.

Deep breath in through your nose,

Let your lower belly fill,

Middle belly,

Top of the lungs.

Hold for a moment,

And as you exhale,

Sigh it out.

Inhaling deep again,

Lower part of the belly,

Middle,

Top of your chest.

And then as you exhale through your nose,

Imagine that you are breathing out through the length of your legs into the earth.

Inhale deep,

Exhale long.

Inhale deep,

Exhale long.

Start observing the sound of your breath as it enters the body and whispers the sound,

So.

Listen to the breath as it leaves your body with the sound,

Hum.

Inhale,

So.

Exhale,

Hum.

Join your breath by silently repeating,

So with the inhalation.

And silently repeat,

Hum,

With the exhalation.

Continue in this way,

Silently repeating,

So,

Hum.

Continue in this way,

So on the inhale,

Hum on the exhale.

Loosely translated,

So Hum mantra means I am that,

I am that,

Great consciousness,

The consciousness that powers all of existence,

The energy center in each particle throughout the universe,

The multiverse,

Your body,

My breath,

And everything.

I am that great consciousness.

So,

Hum.

Feel as you draw in the inhalation through your nose,

Your breath,

The vibration of the breath and the mantra,

Align.

And as you exhale,

Let the exhale travel through your legs down into the earth,

Hum.

Inhale,

So.

Exhale,

Hum.

So.

You can let go of the mantra now,

And let's reverse the mantra.

Let the mantra become Hum and So on the exhale.

So we start with the mantra,

On the inhale,

Hung,

As in I hung the clothes,

And let the exhale become So,

Like a long satisfying sigh.

Inhaling with the mantra Hung,

Exhaling mantra Sa.

This mantra is So Hum mantra reversed,

And this mantra poses the question,

Who am I?

And then So Hum provides the answer,

I am that.

Hung on the inhale,

Sa on the exhale.

Inhaling the sound Hung,

Exhaling silently the sound Sa.

Relax your mind,

Relax your body.

Relax your focus on trying to perfectly articulate the mantra in favor of feeling the mantra subtle but strong vibration that lives inside the syllables.

Hung,

Sa.
