To be a witness means to simply observe,
Without judgement,
Without resistance and without trying to change what is.
Just watching the flow of thoughts,
Feelings and sensations as they arise and pass,
Like clouds drifting across the sky.
Being a witness is watching whatever is arising,
Not being invested in it,
But just observing,
Within and without.
And when we rest as the witness,
We discover a quiet freedom,
A peace that has always been here.
So find yourself a comfortable position and gently close your eyes.
Let's begin by bringing your awareness to the body,
Observe if there is any tension in any part of your body,
Sometimes we clench our body unknowingly,
Unconsciously,
So just a simple act of observation will release the tension without you wanting to change it.
Simply observe,
Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe,
Don't control your breathing but just witness the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe.
Now bring your attention to the mind and observe your thoughts,
Just observe what is emerging,
There could be some thought about the past,
About the future or some story the mind creates,
Just observe what the mind does.
Don't push any thoughts away but just attentively see what the mind creates and as you are attentive,
If in case there is no thought,
Don't create any,
You simply watch.
If you find something emerging,
Witness,
If not be at rest,
Realize that you are not your thoughts,
But you are the one who's watching,
The one observing.
Now turn your attention to the body once again and observe if there are any sensations in the body,
Perhaps a sensation of pain or tingling or heaviness or lightness or warmth,
Just observe without labeling it as good or bad,
Without any judgment,
Just observe whatever is in this moment.
If your mind wanders and you bring your attention back to the object of observation,
Notice if there is any emotion arising,
Whatever arises just observe,
Let it be,
Whatever arises just observe,
Let it be,
Everything which emerges fades away in the light of awareness,
Just remain a witness,
Attentive.
You are the space in which all experiences happen,
So whatever is appearing in the field of consciousness,
Be a witness to it,
Realizing that whatever is,
Is,
The witnessing presence is always here,
Steady,
Unchanging,
Peaceful.
So whenever you feel ready,
Open your eyes,
Carrying this awareness of the witness into the rest of your day,
Remembering you're not the storm,
You are the sky,
You are not the waves,
You are the ocean.
