The DANCE of Safe Belonging (for Fearful Parts) *Part of the DANCE into Liberation™ Series This gentle, somatic meditation is an invitation for your fearful parts to feel safe, seen, and welcome. Rooted in Internal Family Systems (IFS), it offers a grounded space where you can reconnect with presence and listen with curiosity—without judgment. You’ll be guided to use your senses to create a circle of safety where every part is embraced. The meditation includes a lyrical prompt from “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King to support emotional connection. Let your body move freely, or simply listen. Your fearful parts don’t have to perform — they just have to be. © DANCE into Liberation™, created by Michelle Dyett-Welcome. All rights reserved.

Greetings and welcome to today's meditation,

The Dance of Safe Belonging.

This meditation is rooted in the song,

Stand By Me.

Take a moment to feel into your space.

Close your eyes,

Feel your feet on the floor as they press gently into the ground beneath you.

Take a slow deep breath and as you exhale,

Let your shoulders soften,

Let your jaw unclench and your nervous system know you are safe,

You are here,

You are in this present moment.

Breathe again and this time,

Imagine a soft warm light pouring into your body from above.

This gentle light doesn't force anything,

It doesn't insist on anything,

It just wraps itself around you like a soft shawl.

It tells every part of you,

Especially the fearful ones,

That you belong,

That they belong.

Now,

You don't have to come forward all at once,

You don't have to do anything,

Just notice.

Are there parts of you that feel unsure,

That want to hide or run or freeze?

If so,

That's okay,

Those parts are welcome here.

They've been through so much and today they are being welcomed,

Embraced,

Honored,

Cherished and felt sacred.

Let them take that in,

Today they are being welcomed,

They are being embraced,

They are being honored,

They are being cherished and held sacred.

We are standing with them.

How does it feel to know that we are with you,

That we care about you?

And can you take that in,

Just a little?

It's just an invitation,

We're not insisting,

We're holding hope.

Breathe into it,

Allow it to settle for a moment.

Now imagine that you are in a quiet,

Open space,

Maybe it's a circle of light or maybe it's soft grass or maybe you're in a space where your feet are just planted in the warm sand or the cool waters of a river.

Maybe it's somewhere only your soul remembers.

No matter where it is,

You're not alone.

Around you,

There's a circle forming,

Maybe it's self,

Maybe it's your other parts,

Maybe it's an aura of love,

Maybe it's the energy of a song from long ago.

Let the memory of the music gently enter your space.

Let it hum in the background like someone standing just behind you,

With their hand on your shoulder,

Saying nothing,

But meaning everything.

Could it be the song of Stand By Me?

Can you hear the words as they gently drift forward?

No,

I won't be afraid,

Oh,

I won't be afraid,

Just as long as you stand by me.

Stand by me,

Can your fearful parts hear that?

Can they feel that?

Are they willing to let the words wrap around them like a safety net or a warm,

Suddenly blanket?

This isn't about pushing them,

It's about inviting them to be with you,

To allow you to be with them.

Let them taste this moment.

Let them smell the earth beneath your feet or hear the hum of safety in the silence.

See the gentle glow of presence.

They don't have to speak yet,

But they are welcome to.

Are they willing?

Are they willing to tell you what they fear,

Even a tiny flicker?

A little piece of it?

Are they willing to let you in?

Are you curious to learn more?

Are you willing to connect more with them?

You're not here to fix it,

Mm-mm,

Just listen.

Hold them with curiosity,

No judgment,

Only witnessing,

Only warmth.

Whenever you're in trouble,

Won't you stand by me?

Is that their request of you,

To stand by them?

Can you,

Will you?

Can you let them know what you are willing and able to do?

If it feels right within you,

Tell them that self-will.

If it feels aligned,

Tell them that our internal community will.

Let them know that we are here in this shared experience,

Standing together.

They are not alone.

This meditation,

This rhythm is a promise.

A promise that they don't have to perform to be safe,

A promise that they can shake and stomp and cry and curl up and still be loved.

Now,

If your body wants to move even a little,

Follow it.

A sway,

A step,

A rhythm rising in your chest.

If you'd like to dance,

Even gently,

You're invited to join in.

When we start to play it in the background,

Right?

When you start to hear your music rising in the background,

Stand by me,

Just put it on,

Listen to it,

Take it in and continue this meditation in motion.

Allow yourself and your parts to be with one another,

Standing together.

Let your fearful parts move how they want to or not at all,

It's okay.

Let them see that joy isn't threatening,

That safety can be fun,

That you will stand by them always,

Even in rhythm,

Even in stillness,

Even in the dark,

They belong,

They belong here with you,

With us.

And when it feels right,

Put on the song,

Stand by me and allow them to extend this meditation in motion as you stand together with them.

Thank you so much for tuning in,

Bye-bye for now.
