Because not that long ago this was me,
I didn't meditate.
My relaxation came from doing sport,
From running,
From jumping,
From playing in team sport,
Whatever that might be.
But very rarely did I ever sit down and quiet my mind.
So what we're going to do today is just have a quick think about all the ways that we can supercharge ourselves as human beings.
Because our brains aren't just the part that think and drive ourselves forwards.
And we have a huge resource available to us,
If only we are able to quieten that chatter ever so slightly.
And meditation is more than just a practice,
It's an incredibly powerful tool for optimising your entire physiological system.
When you meditate you're not just calming the mind,
You're directly influencing your body's chemistry,
Your neurochemistry and your hormonal balance.
What I'm going to offer you today is the same as taking performance enhancing drugs,
But it's completely legal.
It's available to every one of us and you can do it at your desk,
You can do it on the train,
You can do it sat quietly in the lounge.
It's available to you always.
It's an ancient practice that's been shown to reduce cortisol levels.
And you know that stress hormone all too well,
You know how it feels and you know how it can wreak havoc on our bodies,
If left unchecked.
In contrast,
Meditation simulates the production of serotonin and the positive endorphins.
The feel-good hormones that not just elevate our mood and enhance our sense of well-being,
But they also support better sleep and allow us to become better humans,
Just function better all ways round.
Regardless of your age,
Regardless of your business,
Of your status,
Meditation helps regulate all of us and all of our hormones that are crucial for our energy,
Our vitality and our overall health.
But the benefits don't stop at the physical.
Meditation also sharpens your mind.
It will enhance your creativity.
It will improve your ability to make clear,
Thoughtful decisions.
And when you quiet that mental chatter,
You will be able to create space for new ideas to emerge,
To just drop in.
Your intuition will guide you towards the right decision,
Towards the right direction.
It will make you more effective and more confident in every one of your choices.
So let's give it a go.
Now let's take a moment to experience this for ourselves.
Sitting comfortably or standing wherever you are,
Close your eyes and bring your attention simply to your breath.
Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose,
Noticing how the air feels as it enters your body,
Filling your lungs and expanding your chest.
Exhale gently,
Releasing the air through your mouth or your nose,
Whichever feels best,
I don't mind.
And feel your body relax with each breath out.
See if you can allow yourself to become 1,
3,
7% heavier on every exhale.
Allow gravity to just take the full weight of your body.
Allow yourself just to completely relax.
Focus on the sensation of the breath as it moves in and out of your body,
Nourishing every cell in your body.
Allow your tongue to drop from the roof of your mouth and relax.
Allow your jaw,
Temples,
Nose and lips to soften.
Allow any tension to melt away with each and every exhale and let yourself feel grounded and centered.
Continue to breathe in this way for a few more moments,
Simply noticing the life-giving rhythm of your breath and how good it feels.
And then,
Only when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes and carry this sense of calm and clarity with you into the rest of your day,
Knowing that this simple practice has already begun to increase your hormone health,
Enhance your virility,
Improve your decision-making power and unlock more of your true authentic potential.
And know that repeating this once or twice a day,
You too can explore how these benefits can continue to grow and transform your life.
