
Meeting The Guardians Of Your Fear
So often we're told that our fears are things to be avoided at all costs, but the guardians that keep us from those fears can be wise and powerful guides on the journey back to our own wholeness. Shared by practicing therapist and Divine Feminist Ceryn Rowntree.
Transcript
Begin by getting nice and comfortable lying or sitting down somewhere where you can be safe and undisturbed.
Get comfy,
Get cozy and when you're ready close your eyes and take a big deep breath in.
Pause for just a moment and then release.
Take another big deep breath in and pause and release.
And one more deep breath in filling your lungs,
Filling your body with fresh clean air,
Holding yourself at that point of fullness and then releasing loud and long and clear before pausing in that place of emptiness,
That place of liminality between breaths before you begin to breathe again steadily at the pace and the rhythm that feel right to you.
As you breathe bring your attention to your chest,
To the rise and the fall of your chest as you breathe in and out.
To where that breath fills your chest and then you empty it with the exhale moving your lungs in and out,
Moving your chest up and down,
Up and down.
As you focus on your breath we call in a circle,
A bubble,
A support system of protection around you.
We ask that everything that is done within this space within this time be done with the highest possible intention.
Be done in a way that feels safe,
That feels supportive and that feels nourishing.
And we remind you that if at any point,
If at any moment anything in the journey we're about to take feels anything but safe,
Nourishing,
You can always come back here,
Back to your breath,
Back to that in and out,
That up and down.
But for right now follow that rhythm of your breath,
Of your chest,
Follow it not only to your chest but within your chest.
Follow it deep into the place of your heart space and allow yourself to acclimatise to being in that area of your heart.
This looks different to all of us so let the picture build up for you,
Let the feeling build up for you.
Perhaps it feels like a room,
Perhaps a broad open space,
Perhaps something else entirely.
But allow that image,
That energy to build for you within this space as you allow yourself to follow not only the rhythm of your breath but the beat of your heart.
The constant pulse of your heart that reminds you that this is where so much of your energy,
So much of your power is always stored,
Can always be found.
Allow yourself to move through this space of your heart,
Seeing as you do what you come across,
What you notice.
In everywhere that you move through you send out a beautiful golden energy,
Allowing yourself to clear out anything that is no longer needed here,
Anything that can be released and allowing yourself always to come further and further into alignment with that heart of yours,
Into alignment with the truth and the knowledge that is held here.
As you move through that space you come to a door,
A door that is closed,
A door that we don't need to go through today,
Not at all,
But in front of that door stands a guardian.
This may be a person,
It may be an animal,
Something else entirely,
But allow yourself to take in this guardian in front of you.
Take in the guardian of this door,
Of this fear.
Notice what they look like,
Notice how they feel when you speak with them and when you're ready ask them about themselves.
Ask them who they are and ask them what it is that they're doing in this role,
In this place to keep you safe.
Then allow the words,
The images or the feelings that they have to share to flow into every part of your being.
You Ask this guardian now what it is that they're trying to protect you from and remember again we are not opening the door here,
We are simply asking for their opinion,
For them to share with you what it is that they are ultimately trying to keep you safe from in the work that they're doing.
Again allow those images,
Those words and those feelings to flow into you as they respond to your question.
You If at any point this feels uncomfortable for you,
Remember that you can always ask them to pause,
You can always return to that in and out of your breath and you can ask them to just hold back for just a moment while you acclimatise yourself with the energy that's needed in this space.
But otherwise if you feel safe allow them to continue sharing with you the ultimate fear at the root of this that they are protecting you from.
Take the time to talk to this guardian and ask them about all of the ways that they're protecting you from this fear,
All of the things that they do to hold you back from opening or stepping through this door.
Allow them to share everything with you and as they do take the time to pay attention,
Listen to what they're saying,
Notice what you're feeling and pay attention to what you're seeing as well.
Remember that none of this is about judgment,
None of this is necessarily about fixing any of these things,
It's simply about awareness,
About recognizing and understanding the different ways that this guardian makes itself and its mission known to you.
Take some time to connect to and discuss that now.
You you With all of that knowledge in mind,
With all of those insights in mind,
It's time now to thank this guardian of yours.
After all what we now know is that they're doing their best to support you,
They're doing their best to protect you.
That even if what they're doing has been holding you back in some way it was done with the best of intentions and so do that,
Give thanks to them,
Perhaps hug them,
Thank them for all that they've done in trying to support you and care for you.
Thank them for trying their best to keep you safe.
And then if you wish,
If it feels right to you knowing what you know,
Knowing what they've just told you,
Take the time to explain to them all of the ways that you're safe now.
To explain to them from that place of your own deepest wisdom,
Deepest power and deepest alignment that you are safe,
That you are held,
That you are powerful,
That you are wise,
That you have all that you need to deal with whatever lies through that door.
Ask that in future perhaps the two of you can work not as one protecting the other but alongside one another,
Those companions on this path,
Companions who walk into those situations that may well seem scary,
That may well seem resonant of experiences in past lives,
Experiences that previous generations have had,
Experiences that you yourself have had but you walk into them afresh,
Together,
Strong,
Courageous,
Wise and powerful.
Hold out your hand now and shake the hand of your guardian or embrace your guardian.
Do whatever needs to be done in order for you two to seal this deal,
To agree that together you will move forward in alignment,
Nothing being blocked,
Nothing being held back,
Simply a place of courage,
Of power and of certainty for all that you are able to share and able to do within this world.
Before we prepare to leave this guardian of yours you may turn back to them one more time and ask if they have anything final they wish to share with you,
Anything final that may be useful to guide you,
To provide you with additional courage and support as you move through this next stage of your journey and allow them to share any words,
Any sensations,
Any images or any feelings with you now.
With that done you bid them farewell and you make your way back away from the door that you've been standing in front of,
Back with a smile on your face as you remember not only how powerful and wise you are but the power,
The grace and the support that you have within you,
That you have from your own guardians and inner support team.
You feel yourself within that space of your heart,
Within that area of your energetic being and you notice as your attention begins to move upwards out of your heart and in your chest,
As you feel once again the rhythm of your heartbeat,
A symphony alongside the rhythm of your breath,
As you notice moving ever outwards the way that your chest rises and falls with each and every one of those breaths,
The way that you continue to breathe in and out with that chest moving up and down,
In and out and up and down.
Begin to notice the sounds of the room around you,
Not just on my voice but of everything else that's going on around you and the sounds of the wider world too.
Begin to notice the temperature of the air on your face and the sensation of your claws against your skin.
Begin to notice the weight of your body on the bed or the chair that you're resting on and begin to shuffle around getting nice and comfy again as you come back fully and completely into your body,
Into this moment,
Into the here and now as you take one more big deep breath in and out and when you're ready open your eyes.
