I'm going to invite you to come into a comfortable seated position.

For those of us for whom seated is not possible or not accessible today,

That is also completely okay.

Maybe you wish to lie down or find whatever position feels supportive for you.

So today's meditation is a visualization meditation for the metal element and specifically for your corporeal soul.

In my other course,

I talk about how each of the elements is also connected with your five spirits and the metal element is connected with your corporeal soul,

The part of you that's more instinctive,

Very connected with your emotions.

And so this meditation will help to alchemize difficult emotions,

Underlying loneliness,

And support you to cultivate presence and a sense of compassion and kindness as you allow these emotions to pass through you.

So today actually for this meditation,

It will be helpful actually to have a special tool because some of you will know that every alchemist or magician,

They have a special tool or a substance that can help them create magic.

Like a magician or wizard will have a magic wand or alchemist often they have what is called the philosopher's stone.

So for today's meditation,

If you are able to,

What I want to invite you to do is to take the next couple of moments and connect with an object that gives you that sense of safety,

Security,

Or maybe it's healing for you.

It could be a gift from someone,

It could be a souvenir or an ornament from a time that was truly precious to you,

Or it could be something everyday but that when you see it,

When you touch it,

You feel really safe and you feel really healed and grounded,

Whatever that is.

And take the next couple of moments to grab that.

And if it's too difficult for you to grab that,

That's also okay.

You can hold on to something in front of you,

Whatever you see in front of you,

That when your eyes land on it,

You feel yeah okay,

It makes me feel grounded,

Gives me that sense of ease.

That object will be okay as well for today's meditation.

So don't obsess too much over it having to be perfect.

As long as you find that object and you have that with you,

Then we are ready to begin.

Noticing your inhale,

The peak of your inhale,

Your exhale,

The letting go which is the middle element,

And then the slight pause after the exhale.

And with every exhale,

Allow yourself to ease into your body.

So for the moment you're not yet holding the object,

It's right next to you or in front of you,

But you are in this moment,

You're in close proximity of the object.

And as you connect with your breath,

Let the wave of breath be a reminder of the pulsation of life that is flowing in you in every moment.

You are close to life,

You are life itself.

And with each exhale,

See if you could soften your neck,

Your jaw,

Relax your tongue,

Maybe even soften the top of your scalp,

Your shoulders,

Any part of your body that feels a little rigid or feels tense.

Allowing the exhale to soften that space and to allow yourself to feel held by the surface underneath you,

Whether that is the ground,

A chair,

Your bed,

Any surface that's underneath you holding you.

And now as you feel the sense that you are held,

You are present with your breath,

With the pulsation of life that is you,

I invite you to guide your awareness inwards to your mind's eye.

As you guide your awareness inwards to your mind's eye,

Bring to mind your most recent memory and experience of loneliness.

This could be right now,

You could be feeling loneliness right now,

It could be yesterday,

Last week,

Last month.

Where were you?

Who,

If anyone,

Were you with?

And as you bring to mind this experience,

In your mind's eye,

What was unfolding in that scenario or that situation that evoked a feeling of loneliness within you?

What was causing you to feel lonely?

And how does it feel?

How did it feel in your body as you were experiencing that loneliness?

How did it manifest in your body?

As you allow to surface the feelings of loneliness,

As well as any accompanying thoughts,

They may have been thoughts,

Feelings,

Emotions,

Even sensations relating to your experience,

Your last memory,

Most recent memory of loneliness.

Observe and notice,

Become aware of all of this,

How it feels in your body,

The thoughts that are circling or beginning to surface,

The sensations within you,

And also then notice your response to it.

Notice if there's any resistance.

Do you feel yourself pushing it away?

Do you feel yourself avoiding it and withdrawing away,

Moving closer to center?

Is there denial?

What was your response to it?

Take a moment to acknowledge and notice your instinctual response to that experience of loneliness.

When we experience difficult emotions in relation to loneliness,

Whether that is a contracting feeling,

A feeling of descent into the darkness,

A withdrawal,

An emptiness,

A void pulling us inwards,

However loneliness may manifest for you,

This tends to be uncomfortable for many of us and many of us may instinctually turn away from it or try to resist it or numb our feelings or sensations.

My invitation to you,

If you would like and if you feel you are ready and open,

Is now instead of resisting,

In place of avoiding or denying this experience of loneliness,

We will now gently breathe.

Prepare to turn towards it and face it head on.

Now with both of your hands,

Reach for and gently hold your special object,

Your philosopher's stone.

As you hold on to this special object,

Breathing in,

Feel how you connect with the healing,

Grounding and transformative power of this object,

Your philosopher's stone.

And then as you exhale,

Feel it charging you,

Feel its power like a current entering inside of you,

Inside your consciousness,

Inside your being.

Inhaling,

Absorbing its healing energy.

Exhale,

Letting this pulsate through you.

Inhaling,

Absorbing it even more.

Exhaling,

Letting it saturate all the spaces inside of you and even begin to envelope you so you feel safe,

Protected and grounded.

As you hold this object,

Feel that you are safe,

Feel that you are present,

Feel that you are in this cocoon and you feel this cocoon holding you.

You are now ready.

Gently set aside your special object,

Your philosopher's stone and we will now prepare to turn fully towards your experience of loneliness.

All the thoughts,

Emotions,

Sensations,

However difficult and uncomfortable,

Allow yourself to face it head on.

There's no need to be afraid,

To be scared.

You are safe,

You are held,

You are protected,

You are within your healing cocoon.

Face the sadness,

Face the discomfort,

Feel the emptiness,

The void,

The descent,

The contraction,

The disconnectedness,

Whatever thoughts,

Feelings or sensations related to your unique experience of loneliness,

Whatever those are.

And as you face your experience of loneliness,

See each of these sensations,

Thoughts,

Feelings as dull gray clusters scattered inside of you.

You might see or feel them floating in your chest or your shoulders or your hip or your knees,

Any part of your body.

And as you sense and feel what you feel inside,

Locate the largest of these dull gray clusters,

These clumps.

Could you locate where that is inside of you?

Can you feel it?

And now,

If that's all right for you,

I will invite you to place one or both hands on that area of you.

As you place your hand or hands over that area of you,

We'll take a deep breath in and a long breath out.

Feel the energy from the cocoon surrounding you pass through your chest,

Through your heart,

Through your arms,

Into your palms and through the warmth of your palms and the heat of your sacred flame.

Let this flame begin to cover over and envelope this dull gray clump.

With every long breath out,

Feel the warmth and heat of your sacred flame scorch and melt the uneven,

Rugged surface of this dull gray clump or cluster.

Inhaling as you see and feel the flame burn.

Exhaling as you allow that flame to begin to melt and reveal.

From the surface of the dull gray clump,

You start to see a hint of shimmering gold.

Let's continue for the next three breaths.

Inhaling,

Feeling that sacred flame.

Exhaling,

Letting that scorch and reveal more of that shimmering gold that is underneath,

That is deep within this dull gray clump.

And as you continue to let your breath be fluid,

Visualize right now underneath your palm is no longer a dull gray cluster or clump.

Instead,

You see a shimmering flag of gold.

Feel and see it shimmer and shine deep inside of you,

Lighting up that area of your body like a constellation of stars lighting up the dark night sky.

We will now repeat this process for the remaining larger gray clumps.

Again,

Using your hand or hands,

Locating any area of your body where you feel there is a darkness,

A contraction or void,

A dull gray cluster.

And you can place your hand or hands on that area.

I'm going to take a few deep breaths in and out to use your healing flame.

As you inhale,

Fortifying the flame.

As you exhale,

Letting that flame heal,

Alchemize and reveal underneath the dark gray clump,

Shimmering flags of gold.

Feel free to repeat this a couple of times,

Letting your hands be placed over different parts of your body.

And you can do this with one hand,

With both hands,

Whatever feels best for you.

And you are welcome to stay longer for as long as you wish with this meditation.

Perhaps you repeat this process with all of the gray clumps that you sense and feel inside of you,

Until all of them have transformed into shimmering flags of gold.

Feel,

Sense and see them shimmer and shine inside of you,

Lighting up the whole of your body like constellations in the dark night sky.

If and when you feel ready to conclude this practice,

We will begin to let both of your hands turn out sideways.

So we reach the hands out sideways,

Letting the palms turn face up.

You can do this with eyes closed or open.

And reach to touch the edges of the cocoon that you are in.

And let your hands touch the edges of the cocoon and begin to wrap that cocoon around you.

So your cocoon might be big,

It might be small.

You want to wrap it tightly around you,

So that you are folding it in.

And as you fold it in,

Fold it into the center of your heart.

We'll repeat this a few times.

Don't forget to do the left and the right,

The front and the back,

Even above you and below you.

You want to wrap this cocoon and you want to fold it and place it in your heart,

Until the whole of this cocoon has been condensed and is now folded and collected in the center of your heart.

And now place both of your hands over the center of your heart.

And as you breathe in,

Feel your heart expand.

As you breathe out,

Let your head bow slightly down towards your heart.

Feel your lungs embrace your heart.

Acknowledging your practice and your transition from the beginning to where you are right now and how you feel in this present moment.

Knowing that you can always return to this practice whenever you feel it would be beneficial for you.

And then gently and slowly,

If your eyes are closed,

Let them blink open.
