This meditation focuses on cultivating a sense of being grounded in our body, exploring the connection with the natural world, and can be used as a way of welcoming medicinal elements of the 7 directions as a step in establishing sacred space before ceremonial working. These 20 minutes are an excerpt from our January 2021 online journey circle.

As most meditations do,

I'm going to invite you to close your eyes or soften your gaze and notice your breath.

You don't necessarily have to change it,

Just notice it.

Feel how it is to go in through your nostrils,

Expand in your chest,

Let it fill your belly,

And notice too that wonderful sort of sigh of relief as you exhale.

And as you are feeling this expansion and release,

Just spend a moment scanning your body from your face down to your toes and just notice where you might be holding any tension and feel free to put your hands over those places.

If it's in your eyes,

If you're kind of squeezing your eyes shut,

You know,

Maybe put your hands over your eyes and just warm them a little or rub your temples,

Massage your jaw.

If it feels better to let some sound out with your breath,

Check in with your shoulders.

If they feel tight,

You can squeeze them a little bit or just reach them up to your ears and let them drop down,

Roll them a little bit,

Stretch them.

Just work your way down,

Maybe even just giving your arms little squeezes,

Little lubs,

All the way down each arm.

Check in with your chest and your ribcage and your back.

With your breath,

Really bringing in that invitation of release with every exhale.

Just breathe in a little bit of kindness,

Some kind attention,

Bring it to wherever it is in your body.

Just releasing any pain or tension,

Stress,

Anything that's stored in there.

Maybe it's even emotion that's stored.

Work way down your lower back.

Check in with your organs.

How's your heart feeling?

Put your hand over your heart.

Just welcome yourself here fully,

Completely.

Call yourself in from all the places you might be.

Other parts of your day,

Things that are occupying your mind,

Just all those things can just wait.

Just call all of your presence right here to your heart and to your body.

Welcome in your liver and your kidneys and your guts,

Stomach,

All these places that we usually forget about or don't really give a lot of attention to perhaps or maybe are sources of challenge.

Just welcoming and loving.

Put your hand over your belly.

Squeeze your thighs.

Check in with your knees.

If you need any extra supports for them,

Bring those in,

Extra pillows or stretch a little bit.

You can lay down your calves,

Your ankles,

Your feet,

Hardworking feet support us all the time.

Wiggle your toes or warm them with your hands.

Really let yourself just breathe deeply.

Let any sighs escape you,

Yawning.

All of that's all just releasing work.

I'm going to invite you to bring your awareness to the feeling that your body is making with the seat that you are in or the little nest that you've made yourself.

Just feel those connection points that your body is making with these physical supports and allow yourself to feel really held and supported.

Let yourself melt into that a little bit.

Then with your breath and your awareness,

I invite you to just send your little roots down just like any plant or any tree.

Just send your little roots of awareness down through the floor,

Into the earth beneath you,

Into the land that is holding you,

Into this place that is offering its grounding and its nurturance.

Just let your awareness steep on down.

Keep cycling your breath.

And I invite you to sense out with your little tendrils down in the earth,

All of those connective helpers,

Just like the tree roots have mycelium of mushrooms and other plants.

They're all in this wonderful network of passing information and sharing their nutrients and passing things between them.

I invite you to do the same sort of thing with your awareness and just reaching down into the earth and feeling out your community of choice,

Your loved ones,

All of your plant helpers.

Feel out for those lands,

Those places that you love so dearly.

So if you are far from those,

Just reach out through all these little networks,

Passing information to the places that do nourish you.

Get a sense of the trees that are perhaps nearby you,

Any little bulbs that are in the ground waiting to sprout up.

Just increasing that feeling of community and connectivity.

Feel the different densities of the different soils and the sands and the rocks.

Feeling out those which feel good and supportive,

Connecting with those a little bit.

And with your gratitude,

You can send anything out through this network that you feel perhaps is good and needed at this time and send it out to the land that you're on,

The plant allies.

Get a sense too of a little bit of care and a little bit of tenderness from these friends of ours,

The plants and the roots and the trees and the mushrooms and the stones,

The earth.

Just welcoming those gifts back to us and forget sometimes just how welcome we are.

And then I invite you to,

Just like a tree,

Getting a sense of your strong body and getting a sense of the morning sun and what it is like to have the sun rise upon you every morning and that gentle breaking of dawn and getting a sense of the air and the winds and the breezes,

How they wrap around you,

Breathe into your lungs.

And again,

With your strong body,

Getting a sense of the heat,

The warmth,

The full sun,

Full summer sun,

And how there's good it feels when you've been cool and cold to turn towards it.

Just like coming out of the darkness towards a warm fire,

That wonderful feeling of warmth flowing over you and letting any places within you that need that kind of warmth,

Places that maybe have been frozen out in your mind,

Just letting that warmth come to those places and bring a little vitality,

Soaking in all those growth nutrients,

That impulse to grow.

And again,

With your tall,

Strong body,

Just reaching over to where you can feel water.

Maybe there's a river nearby or the ocean or maybe it's the rains,

Maybe it's the moisture in your air,

Really allowing the cleansing and the washing and the flow,

Bringing that to wherever,

Perhaps within your mind or your awareness or your spirit body,

Anywhere that's maybe felt a little stagnant,

Can invite some of that flow,

Some of that trickling,

Washing,

Or maybe it's a more powerful surge that is needed.

And just welcoming that in to however it needs to be,

Wherever it needs to go,

And feeling the the cool release that comes with a twilight as the sun is just just setting where our day's work is done and we get to rest a little bit.

It's bringing that feeling really present.

Maybe I'll put down your tools and just rest a little bit.

And then again with your full body,

Feeling the the enveloping of night,

The cool,

The stillness,

The darkness,

Where it's a comfortable place to be,

Where you can feel all your dreaming happening,

And really feeling a sense of an anchoring of this this space.

I can feel feel it grounded right into the rocks.

It's very well established,

Very old,

Just like the earth,

Just like the lands we are on.

Infinite capacity to hold hold strong and bringing that into wherever needs to be for you.

That medicine of strength,

That ancientness,

That ancient quality that's within you,

Just drawing that forward.

And also like a tree with its roots and its strong body,

Reaching up for our spidey senses,

Our branches,

Our our reach up towards the heavens,

Towards the towards the sky.

And feeling that ability to pick up the subtle energies from above,

How we can shift slightly and turn to exactly where we need to orient to.

Getting a sense of the starlight,

How even in the darkest of nights there's these beautiful lights to guide us,

To navigate by,

Bringing some of that knowing into us.

These ancient ways of steering ourselves and feeling out for the moon and all of its phases coming to fullness,

And waxing away,

Waning away,

Until a fallow time,

Into a dark time.

And how this cycle,

This ebb and flow coming into being and releasing,

How it is constant,

Constant in its movement.

And the same with the sun,

Just with a longer cycle,

Coming into day,

Coming into night,

Coming into summer,

Coming into winter.

And really just connecting to that feeling,

That natural cycle,

That rhythm,

That flow.

Bringing that into anywhere where we need it most,

Where we maybe are perhaps worried that something will never change.

Just letting that trust and that knowing filter right into our bodies.

And then I invite you to bring your awareness closer into yourself,

Your body,

Yourself,

Your body.

Getting a sense of the room that you are in,

The space that you are in.

Just feel out with your energy and your mind,

Your awareness,

Where the walls are,

And the ceiling and the floor.

Touch in,

In all the little corners.

Feeling again the connection your body is making with the seat or the little nest you've created for yourself.

Feeling that very tangible holding.

Returning to your breath,

Feeling your belly,

Your chest,

Your nose.

And this time with your breath,

Just taking a few invigorating breaths.

Wiggling your fingers and toes and stretching your arms and touching your face and just waking yourself up a little bit.

Give yourself some squeezes.

Letting yourself adjust to being in your room,

Fully present,

Fully embodied,

Completely here and now.

And when you're ready,

Just gently opening your eyes,

Take a little look around.

If you have some water or tea,

Have a little sip.

If you have something nearby to smell,

Like maybe some cedar oil or something,

Some florida water.

Okay.
