This is a recording of the Insight Timer Live Breathwork session on April 2nd, focused on dancing between form and formless through a gentle breathwork practice. The practice is simple: just lie down, close your eyes, and breathe into the belly, then into the chest, then exhale. The breathing is all through the mouth. The invitation in these sessions is to center connection with the breath over any specific rhythm or outcome. Enjoy!

Hi there,

And thanks for pressing play on this.

So this was a live breathwork session recorded on April 2nd,

2023.

Usually during the live sessions,

I'll start with an explanation of the practice.

And so here's what you need to know to do this.

What you're going to do is lay down.

You can have a pillow,

You can have,

You know,

A bolster under your knees if your lower back is tight.

But the idea is you're going to lay down,

Close your eyes,

And you're going to do a three-part breath.

And I'll,

You'll,

You'll hear that I coach it through it all the way through.

And the three-part breath is all through the mouth.

You're just going to breathe into the belly,

Into the chest,

And then release.

And the invitation as you breathe in that way is simply to follow what your body needs.

So if you want to breathe a little faster,

Do that.

If you want to take breaks,

Do that.

And the invitation always in these sessions is to use it as an opportunity to connect with the breath and to connect with the folks from all over the world who both were experiencing it live and hopefully will experience it over time now that it's posted here as a recorded meditation.

And with that,

I'll send you off to the recording.

Thanks again for listening,

And if you enjoy this,

Please leave a review and have a beautiful breathwork session.

What are these dancing particles of condensed radiance?

What are these dancing particles of condensed radiance?

Such beautiful questions to bring into this practice as we breathe with the energy of creation,

Really,

As our particles start to dance.

And the other invitation and reminder in this is there's a part of us,

Most of us,

Maybe all of us,

That remembers what it is to be formless,

To be part of the vast cosmic energy of everything before we condensed into these particles of light that have come together to create each of us.

And so maybe we can explore that longing a little bit.

So let's get ready to breathe.

Maybe as you lay down,

Take a nice slow breath in,

Release it with a sigh.

With that sigh,

Letting go of any agenda,

Letting go of the to-do lists and the shoulds,

Letting ourselves be present with the breath,

Breathing in and releasing.

And as always,

It's nice to begin with a gentle reminder to ourselves and to each other,

It's safe for me to be in my body.

It's safe for my senses to wake up,

And it's safe to be curious,

To play,

To breathe.

Nice slow breath in and release.

And I'll invite you to start the breathing all through the mouth,

Breathing into the belly,

Chest,

And releasing.

Big invitation as we start to let go of the week,

Let go of the decade,

And allow as much of yourself as is available to engage with the breath.

Get some music going for you.

Reminder,

These first few minutes are really your chance to get used to the breathing pattern.

Begin letting go of our normal way of being and interacting in the world with our minds.

And so as you breathe in,

You can think,

Inhale,

Inhale,

Release,

Inhale,

Inhale,

Release.

And as you breathe,

See if you can start paying attention to the body,

To the expansion as you breathe in,

The expansion of the belly,

The expansion of the chest,

The sense of release and surrender that can come with the exhale.

So we don't need to do anything with the exhale.

You can just set it free.

And as we move into this,

If you want to,

You can just bring awareness to the 50 or so other people around our campfire,

All of us breathing together.

Maybe at some level,

This is what we're built for,

To breathe together,

Explore,

Play,

Hold each other's joys,

Hold each other's grief,

Fear,

Triumphs.

Stay with the breath.

If you want to,

You can take in a little more oxygen into the belly,

Maybe three or 4% more.

And see if you can get the breath maybe two inches below wherever it is right now.

So if it's in your solar plexus,

See if you can gently invite it further into the belly.

If it's in the belly,

See if you can invite it lower into the pelvis,

A few inches below the belly button,

A few inches behind.

And if you find your mind drifting,

That's fine.

Allow the mind to drift.

And if you find yourself making lists or trying to figure anything out,

There's an invitation to bring the attention to the breath.

That's why it's there.

Especially as we start,

To give the mind something to concern itself with.

Breathe in,

Breathe in,

Release.

For the next 15 or so minutes,

That's all we have to worry about,

Just breathing.

I'll invite you to check in with the muscles of your face.

And if you find that they're a little tight,

If the brows are knit together,

If the jaw is tight or clenched,

We can invite a little bit of softening.

Allowing the eyes to relax into their sockets,

The forehead to uncrease,

The top of the skull to relax.

Letting the jaw just kind of fall open a little bit,

If you want to.

You can start to let the breath go a little bit deeper.

And some of that may simply be a letting go,

The need to understand or control.

Allow each moment,

Each breath to unfold gently into the next.

Each moment rising and falling away.

Each breath introducing the possibility of reinvention.

To support that,

We can bring in the awareness that with each breath you're bringing and welcoming and inviting millions,

Millions of particles,

Dancing vibrations of condensed light into your body.

And these particles have traveled through time and space to visit with you,

To dance with yourselves,

To share their wisdom and their compassion,

Their comfort,

Their love.

So you can imagine these particles,

Molecules,

Atoms of oxygen as a stream,

A river of light.

Maybe the light is white or yellow,

Pink,

Blue,

Gently entering the body,

Moving through the heart and being carried into every nook and cranny and crevice of the body through the veins and capillaries.

These particles of light wash over your muscles,

Your connective tissues,

Maybe helping them release old stories,

Old emotions,

Old energetic stuff you may have been holding onto for lifetimes.

If you allow it on the exhale,

This river of light perhaps can carry some of that away for you and bring it back into the vast ocean of energy on the exhale so that it can be transformed and composted into something nourishing,

Beautiful,

Surprising.

I'm going to be breathing for about six more minutes.

Stay with it.

And if it feels interesting to you,

We can invite a really gentle shift now where the breath actually starts to lead the way for us.

The mind steps way even further,

Maybe floats off into the ether for a bit and the body begins to move in the direction of the breath.

And the body begins to wake up the intelligence of the cells,

Sensing the air and energy around you.

If you want to,

You can even imagine these beautiful roots growing from your body down into the earth,

Passing through the topsoil and the billions and billions and billions of organisms dancing there in support of life down through the lower layers of the earth's crust,

Down to the magnetic core of the earth,

Which pulses with a heartbeat.

And at the same time,

As those roots connect us to the earth,

You can imagine energetic tendrils just expanding from your body,

Sensing the world around you,

Going even further,

Maybe to sense the stars,

The space between particles.

There is something in you that remembers this connection.

That remembers what it is to dance with the elements,

To feel the fire and water and earth in your body.

Something in you that remembers the moment that a plant first burst through the soil to feel the warmth of the sun for the first time.

Stay with the breath just a little longer.

And so in a world where this connection is felt and remembered,

We are never alone and we never have to carry anything by ourselves.

So if there's something that feels like it wants to shift or move in your body,

In your energy,

And it feels stuck for whatever reason,

There's an invitation to ask for a little help and know that you are worthy of that help and that it is on its way to you even before you ask.

You are worthy of support,

Worthy of love,

Worthy of breath.

We'll just be breathing for about three more minutes before we relax.

I'll invite you to bring the breath a little bit more into the heart,

Into the chest,

Waking up the heart even more.

Maybe bringing a little piece of our joint campfire into the heart as if to say,

Join us,

Share your wisdom,

Share your beauty,

Share your creativity,

Endless capacity for wonder and play.

So you can imagine the energy in the heart just coming out and maybe it'll take on some delightful form,

Unexpected,

Playful,

A dragon,

A shape,

A color.

And sometimes it can take a moment for our hearts to feel safe,

Such a tender thing.

Just keep breathing into that space.

And into that space.

Beautiful.

And we can ask the heart,

The energy of the heart that is secretly connected with the elements,

The energy of creation and creativity to take up a little more space.

Just wings,

Maybe long forgotten wings,

Opening on the back of unfurling,

Just a little bit at a time.

Each feather filling with light,

Creativity,

Beauty.

If you want to,

You can imagine or feel the emerging individual hearts in this group,

Gathering around our fire as we lie down,

Breathing in all of these hearts together,

Dancing in a vibrating creation that is utterly unique.

Each piece giving and receiving in an equal measure as something new and beautiful and unspeakably awe-inspiring begins to take form.

Just a couple more breaths.

And I'll invite you to transition to a resting breath.

And then just a single inhale into the belly and releasing.

And releasing.

So the work is done.

Our collective heart creation dances around the fire.

And the body gets a little bit heavier.

Like there's a beautiful blanket of light and dancing particles settling over you,

Bringing you into deeper connection with gravity and with the earth.

These next few minutes are your chance to receive.

There's no more work to do.

We can just open an invitation to any wise guides,

Guardians,

Angels,

Animals,

Elders,

Just to join us and create a circle outside of our circle.

They hold their hands up and create a ring of beautiful light that surrounds us and goes to the exact places in our energy or our body that may need a little bit of extra love.

We don't need to do anything to be worthy of this simply by being here on earth,

Simply by taking on the form of a,

And maybe just for a moment,

We lay on the earth together.

We can allow our bodies to dissolve and remember that we all come from oneness,

From that vast field of creation that holds us all.

So you can feel the stars as part of you,

Earth breathing with you,

The rivers flowing through your body,

The air flowing through the rivers.

If you want to,

You can imagine standing by our campfire and moving with the awareness of this connection,

Just with each step,

Stepping as the earth and the stars.

When you feel the heat of the fire against your palms,

It's your own heat warming yourself.

Maybe you can expand to fill the whole world and then come back and contract into your physical form,

Really playfully switching from formless to form and then laying down again by the fire in your body,

Connected with each other for these last few moments.

Maybe really allowing yourselves to feel each other's presence,

Feel each other's energy,

Bringing the breathing to a more natural place.

Maybe breathing through the nose,

Nice slow breath in.

I'm starting to come back.

If it's late where you are and you're blissed out or just sleepy,

Thank you for being here.

Please have beautiful dreams and you can go off into the beautiful night.

But if you'd like to come back,

You can just really gently maybe wiggle your hips and your fingers,

Your toes.

I always like to roll on over to my side after that.

I'm going to start to feel my knees before sitting up and maybe take a couple deep breaths as you come back.

Thanks for listening to this recorded live session and feel free to come back anytime or join us live here on Inside Timer,

Sundays at 6pm Pacific.

Thanks again.

Have a beautiful day or evening.
