In this five minute guided meditation,

We'll navigate the turbulent waters of anger that can arise when dealing with our teens.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed,

Especially when they're pushing our buttons faster than we can hit pause.

With a sprinkle of humor and a generous dose of love and compassion,

We'll remind ourselves of our role as guides on this chaotic journey.

So let's find a comfortable position,

Take a deep breath,

And embrace the calm together.

Begin by finding a comfortable position.

You might sit or lie down,

Whatever feels right for you.

Gently close your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so.

Take a deep breath in through your nose,

Filling your belly like a balloon,

And slowly exhale through your mouth,

Releasing any tension.

As you continue to breathe deeply,

Bring your attention to your jaw.

Allow it to relax.

Let your teeth part slightly and notice the release in your cheeks.

Feel the small muscles around your eyes soften,

Allowing your eyelids to gently close if they are not already.

Now take a moment to notice your ears and neck.

Let your neck feel heavy and supported,

And allow any tightness in those small muscles to melt away with each breath.

Inhale calmness,

And exhale tension.

Now let's take a moment to acknowledge the feeling of anger you might be experiencing.

It's completely normal.

After all,

You are a parent to a teenager.

They have a knack for finding those buttons we didn't even know existed.

Picture your anger as a cloud in the sky.

You can observe it without judgment.

It's there,

And it's valid,

But it doesn't define you.

Let it drift by you as you focus on your breath.

Inhale calmness,

And exhale anger.

As you continue to breathe,

Remind yourself that it's your teen's duty to make mistakes and learn about the world,

Just like you didn't magically learn how to cook without burning the toast.

They need their own experiences to grow.

Imagine their mistakes as stepping stones across a river.

Each stone may look wobbly,

But it's a vital part of their journey.

And your role is to be their guide,

Helping them navigate the tricky waters.

Think of it as being the wise,

Slightly confused GPS that recalibrates when they're taking a wrong turn.

Now let's shift our focus to love and compassion.

Visualize your heart filling with warmth,

Radiating outwards like sunshine on a chilly day.

Remember,

Beneath all the teenage chaos,

Your teen is still your child,

The one who once fit perfectly in your arms.

Repeat this mantra silently or out loud.

I am here to guide,

Not to judge.

Feel the power of those words as they settle into your heart.

Picture your teen's face,

Perhaps with a little bit of mischief,

And allow yourself to smile.

Their journey is messy,

Just like your parenting journey has been.

As we begin to wrap up this meditation,

Take a deep breath in,

Filling your lungs with that warm,

Loving energy.

Hold it for a moment,

And now exhale,

Releasing any residual anger or frustration,

Making space for understanding and compassion.

Gently wiggle your fingers and toes,

Bringing your awareness back to the room.

When you're ready,

Slowly open your eyes.

Take a moment to notice how you feel now.

Carry this sense of calm and love with you as you navigate your relationship with your teenager right now.

Remember,

It's not just about the mistakes.

It's about the journey you both are on together.

Thank you for taking this time for yourself.

You are not just a parent,

You are a guide,

And that is a beautiful thing.

Now go forth and embrace the day,

Knowing you have the strength to meet your teen where they are,

Armed with love,

Patience,

And maybe a little bit of humor.
