This somatic meditation is designed specifically for people living with fibromyalgia. Rather than focusing on painful areas or trying to relax the body on command, this practice helps soften the nervous system’s protective patterns with micro-moments of ease, grounding, and expanded awareness. Through gentle orienting, supportive anchors, and choice-based guidance, you’ll learn how to widen your internal experience, so pain is not the only thing your body has to hold. This meditation is suitable for flares, fatigue, and high-sensitivity days

Hello,

I'm Heather and welcome to Easing the Flare.

Let's take a moment to settle into whatever position feels most accessible right now.

Sitting,

Lying down,

Supported with pillows,

Or reclined.

There is no correct posture.

Your comfort comes first.

Invite your eyes to soften or to stay open,

Whichever helps you feel safest.

Begin by taking in the space around you.

Look at something neutral or calming.

A color,

A shape,

A texture,

A light.

Let your body register.

I am here.

I am safe enough in this moment.

Allow your breath to be natural.

Not deeper,

Not slower,

Unless that feels helpful.

Fibromyalgia often responds best to permission,

Not effort.

Now,

Gently sense one place in your body that feels least activated or perhaps simply neutral.

It might be your hands,

Your hair,

Your feet,

Or even the sensation of air on your skin.

If nothing feels neutral,

Anchor yourself in the room.

The temperature,

The sounds,

Or the surface beneath you.

You get to choose.

Instead of moving toward pain,

Let the painful areas remain in the background.

Held softly,

Not pushed away,

And not zoomed in on.

Just one part of the whole landscape of you.

Imagine your awareness widening just a little.

As if you're expanding the edges of your internal space.

Noticing that pain is here,

But it is not the only thing here.

If a flare or a sharp sensation arises,

You do not need to stay with it.

You can shift your attention gently back to your chosen anchor.

This is not avoidance.

This is regulation.

This is care.

Notice if any part of your body feels like it's bracing or guarding.

Your jaw,

Shoulders,

Belly,

Thighs,

You don't need to release anything today.

Just acknowledge these protective patterns with respect.

They've been helping you for a long time.

If it feels okay,

Invite a one or two percent softening around them.

Not relaxing the muscles themselves,

But softening around the effort.

Allow your body to decide if it wants to take that invitation.

Take a slow blink or a longer exhale if that feels supportive.

Just a tiny moment of ease.

Not forced,

Not controlled.

Now return to your anchor.

Your hands,

Your breath,

The room,

A place in your body that feels steadier.

Let these steadier places be a reminder that your body is not failing you.

It is responding to years of overwhelm,

Stress,

And sensitivity.

And it can also respond to gentleness,

Warmth,

And safety.

Quietly say to yourself or simply sense,

I do not have to hold everything at once.

My body is allowed small moments of ease.

I am doing the best I can.

And begin to come back again into your environment,

Where you are in space.

The colors,

Shapes,

And sounds around you.

Allow those external cues remind your nervous system that the world around you is steady.

When you're ready,

Take a gentle breath in and a soft exhale out.

Carry this with you as a reminder.

Fibromyalgia does not define your worth.

Your body is doing its best to protect you.

Small moments of ease matter more than you think.
