If meditation feels intimidating, I want to help you break down the barrier to create a regular practice for yourself. In this mini introduction to what meditation is and isn't, I am sharing a handful of benefits to help your BRAIN buy into making it a daily practice. I close with a short practice that can enhance our clarity of mind, calm our nervous system, invite us to be more present in our day, and show how simple we can make meditation.

So much for giving me your attention and tuning in.

My name is Sari Fox,

And for this month,

We are tapping into the theme and the power of meditation.

So if you haven't heard,

Meditation can help with so many aspects of our life.

It can help boost our mood,

Increase our focus,

Increase our energy levels,

Better our communication with others,

Boost our immunity,

And just overall help us to feel better.

Now,

The definition of meditation is simply to change our attention or allowing our mind to become familiar with purposeful thoughts.

Now,

There are three kinds of meditation.

There is breath work,

There is visualization,

And there is affirmations.

And affirmation simply means creating positive stories that helps to serve our life.

So the effects of meditation ultimately help us to change our physiology and helps us to really regulate our emotions.

And like I said,

Just overall to help us feel better.

So for today,

I am gonna share with you a breath work meditation,

And this meditation helps us to train our mind essentially.

It can help boost our memory.

It can help us to feel calm and just really decrease the busyness of our minds.

So before we begin,

I want to share with you three things that I want you to be aware of,

Which can help you with all of the meditations.

So the first one is that meditation doesn't mean that we are trying to clear our mind of thoughts.

That is impossible.

The nature of the mind is such that we have thoughts.

We have 60,

000 thoughts a day.

What meditation can help us with is understanding exactly what we're thinking about and the quality of our mind.

Number two,

You cannot do meditation wrong.

We may be novices at it.

It may feel uncomfortable.

Some days we may have a lot on our mind,

But there's no way that you can do this wrong.

It takes focus and it takes a little bit of attention,

And it really just takes some consistent practice.

And what I mean by that,

And this is number three,

Give yourself time to practice meditation.

The accrued effect from practicing meditation daily,

Whether it's two minutes,

Three minutes,

Or five minutes,

You will begin to feel and see the effects of meditation in your life.

You will ultimately start to feel calmer,

More clear in your mind,

And overall more positive.

So let's give it a try.

I invite you to close your eyes,

And I invite you to sit up nice and tall wherever you are.

Feel the ground beneath you.

So allow yourself to relax in your seat.

And we're just gonna take a very deep breath in,

And exhale,

Let it go through the mouth or through the nose,

Whatever feels more comfortable.

We'll do that again.

Inhale just through the nose.

And exhale through the nose or the mouth.

You can't do it wrong.

Now I'm gonna give you a breath count,

And in between the inhalation and the exhalation,

We are going to hold the breath for three counts.

So take a deep breath in,

And then hold the breath for one,

For two,

For three.

Exhale the breath all the way out.

Let's try that twice more.

Inhaling,

Hold the breath for one,

For two,

For three.

Exhale the breath softly.

Let's do one more round.

Inhale,

And then hold the breath for one,

For two,

For three.

Exhale the breath all the way out.

Now take a moment to just feel and notice your mind.

Notice if you feel a little more relaxed.

Take a very deep breath in,

Exhale it out,

And then open up your eyes.

I wanna thank you for trying this with me,

And I'll see you next time.
