When we think of a wave,
It arises as the breath of the ocean,
And that wave is guided into an ebb and flow,
The pull of the moon on the tide.
This is receptivity.
The moon is pulling upon the wave.
The wave is not efforting.
Each wave exists separately,
And yet each wave only lives once.
But for the wave to become the ocean,
It must surrender and let go.
It must surrender to the rhythm of nature and the cycles of time.
Greatness comes from the power of receptivity.
Today we will enter a practice of receptivity,
Connecting our breath now to the movement of nature to the wave of the breath as we breathe in and breathe out,
Receiving the breath fully.
Coming into a comfortable seated position,
Taking a moment to notice the breath and how it enters the body naturally and how it exits the body without resistance.
Breathing and exhaling.
Gently and slowly closing the eyes as you receive the breath and align yourself with each breath to the receptive power of nature.
Inhaling to receive and exhaling to give.
Just noticing the breath as it is.
And with each breath,
Noticing the breath rise and fall like the tide.
Facing the palms onto your lap,
Palms facing up as though receiving.
Now setting the intention to begin to enter the practice of meditation.
Feel the coolness of the breath as you inhale through the nose and the warmth of the breath as you exhale through the nose.
Breathing and exhaling,
Letting go from one wave of breath into the ocean of another.
Becoming the rhythm of receptivity.
Breathing and exhaling.
Today,
We can invite ourselves to become receptive.
The letting go of efforting or swimming against the tide.
Noticing that the breath will rise,
Fall and return without doing anything at all.
We can receive the breath.
Breathing and exhaling.
Moving now to the breath as we inhale and exhale.
Feeling the sound of the breath as a sensation and as a guide.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Giving space to receive anything that may be arising in this moment.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Relaxed breath.
.
.
Breathing in and breathing out.
And with each breath,
Feeling the gentle sensation of the breath aligning yourself to the receptive power of nature.
Now opening and attuning to the akasha,
The space element.
I am open to the receptivity and the gifts of the universe.
I am willing and I am ready to be receptive.
I am ready to receive.
And as you breathe,
Visualize,
Imagine,
Feel or hear the tide moving up as you breathe in.
And back down as you breathe out.
As we create space for new things to arrive on this journey.
Feeling the palms open on your lap.
I am open to receive.
I am receptive.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Allowing the breath to breathe you.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Receiving the breath fully and effortlessly.
Now deepening the breath.
Breathing in through the nose to the base of the spine.
Feeling the abdomen rise and breathing out through the mouth.
Letting go,
Creating space.
Feeling the navel pull towards the spine.
Inhaling through the nose into the base of the spine.
And filling out through the mouth.
Feeling the navel pull towards the spine.
Creating space as we breathe in and as we breathe out.
Now for a moment,
I invite you to sit with your own presence.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Noticing how you feel,
Whatever comes up,
Just taking a moment to notice.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Sitting in your own presence.
Noticing how it feels to be in your own body.
Noticing the strength and the foundation of the seat beneath you.
Noticing your own strength.
Just noticing as the space of the body holds you,
As the space of the earth holds you.
Feeling the support of the seat of your own body.
Feeling the support and strength of the earth beneath you.
Feeling the support.
As you breathe in and breathe out,
Inhaling into the abdomen.
Feeling the belly rise and exhaling through the mouth,
Letting go of anything that you want to let go of in this moment.
Allowing the wave of the breath to wash it away,
Creating space to receive.
Inhaling into the abdomen,
Feeling the belly rise and receive,
And exhaling through the mouth,
Emptying out and letting go.
Inhaling through the nose,
Feeling the abdomen rise and receive,
And exhaling through the mouth,
Letting go.
Breathing in and breathing out.
On your next inhalation,
Feeling the coolness of the breath.
Breathing in and filling the abdomen,
Belly rises and exhaling through the mouth,
The navel pulls towards the spine.
Breathing in and breathing out,
Noticing the sensation of the breath.
Noticing the power and the energy,
The innate beauty of the body as the life force of prana arises in the body.
Noticing your own beauty and strength.
Noticing the sensations arise with the coolness in the breath as you breathe in and the warmth of the breath as you breathe out.
Staying with the breath,
Receiving it fully and breathing out.
The sacred reciprocity of life lives here in the breath.
Breathing as we breathe in and giving as we breathe out.
Effortless.
When we are receptive,
We become greater than the individual wave.
We become the ocean,
The wave and the drop of water,
All at the same time.
So here,
In this practice of receptivity,
You are not surrendering to anything or anyone.
You are creating space for you to see the ocean and to see the wave and to see the drop of water that is you.
This is the expansion of awareness.
To see yourself more clearly,
More deeply and with greatness.
Taking a moment to gently and slowly feel the seat of the body,
Becoming aware of your senses and perhaps the sounds in the room and gently and slowly when you are ready,
Begin to open the eyes.
First looking down at the ground and then raising the eyes to remember the room.
Begin with the breath as you reconnect,
As you enter back into your space.
As you breathe in and breathe out,
May you remember the power of receptivity within.
