A Gentle Reset For An Overloaded Day

This short, grounding practice is designed for moments when your nervous system feels overloaded — after a long day, caregiving, work, or too much screen time. There’s nothing to solve here and nothing to get right. This is not about relaxing on command or making your mind quiet. It’s simply a few minutes to let the day land in the body and give your system some space to settle. You’ll be gently guided to: come out of “doing” mode, reconnect with physical sensations, and downshift without forcing or effort. If you’re new to my work or feeling overwhelmed, this is a supportive place to begin. Even listening without concentrating is enough. You can return to this practice anytime your system feels wired, tired, or like it won’t quite switch off — for a few minutes of grounding, permission, and reset.

This is a gentle reset for an overloaded day.

If your nervous system feels wired,

Tired,

Or like it won't quite switch off,

You are in the right place.

There is nothing to solve here,

Nothing to fix,

Nothing to figure out.

We are just giving your system a few minutes to let the day land.

You don't need to feel calm,

You don't need to do this well,

Even listening is enough.

Take a moment to get comfortable,

Seated or laying down.

Whatever feels easiest right now.

And if it's comfortable,

Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.

Let your attention come to your breath,

Not changing it,

Just noticing that breathing is already happening.

If it feels ok,

Take one slow inhale to the nose,

And a gentle exhale to the mouth.

Again,

Inhale and exhale.

You don't need to breathe deeply,

Just let the exhale be a little longer than the inhale.

That alone can signal to the body that it's ok to downshift.

Now,

Instead of going into the mind,

Bring awareness to the body.

Notice where the day is still being held,

Maybe in the jaw,

The shoulders,

The chest,

The belly or the hands.

You don't need to scan carefully,

Just notice one place that feels a little tight,

Heavy or busy.

And see if you can let your awareness rest there,

Without trying to change it.

As if you are saying to that place,

You don't have to hold everything anymore.

Let gravity do some of the work.

Let the surface beneath you carry some of the weight.

If your mind starts replaying the day,

Planning or reviewing conversations,

That's not a problem.

You are not doing this wrong.

Each time you notice that happening,

Gently return attention to the sensation of the body breathing.

Not to control it,

Just to anchor.

Nothing to solve,

Nothing to organize.

We are just letting the system feel supported for a few minutes.

Silently,

You might repeat to yourself,

Nothing is required right now.

I am allowed to pause.

The day can settle.

If those words don't resonate,

You can simply stay with the breath or the feeling of contact with the ground.

There is no right way.

Notice if anything in the body has softened even a little.

Not better,

Just different.

Maybe a small drop in the shoulders,

A deeper exhale,

Or a sense of heaviness or warmth.

If nothing has changed,

That's okay too.

Sometimes the most important shift is simply not pushing for a shift.

Let yourself rest here for a few quiet breaths.

As we begin to close,

Know that this reset doesn't need to be complete.

Even a small pause can make the rest of the day or evening feel more manageable.

You can return to this practice anytime your system feels overloaded.

Before you move on,

Take one last gentle inhale and a slow exhale.

Letting the body settle where it is.

When you are ready,

Gently open your eyes or lift your gaze.

Carry this small bit of space with you as you move into what's next.
