This meditation invites a shift in how you relate to your mind. By recognising this, space opens for choice, clarity, and a more compassionate response to inner experience. Rooted in the gentle principles of When Self-Talk Is Medicine, this practice helps loosen the grip of automatic reactions and supports responding with awareness and care, especially during challenging moments. This is an informative, talk-style meditation that opens with the Wisdom of the Waves and gently closes with a single rhyming affirmation, supported by light emotive music. Helpful for stress, anxiety, self-awareness, decision fatigue, emotional balance, mindfulness, nervous system support, and navigating tough times with clarity.

Not my friend.

Nor my enemy.

Acknowledging the choice.

Today's gentle message for this you here now is.

.

.

Your mind isn't faulty.

It's just busy trying to protect you.

Even the harshest thought,

In its own way,

Is a survival attempt.

And when we start to see it that way,

Something softens.

We don't need to fight the mind.

Just begin to understand it.

Let's go to the wisdom of the waves for a micro-dose of insight and inspiration.

The thousands of thoughts that you humans have every day,

Most of which are automatic,

And a large portion of these are unhelpful.

The human mind,

Being a process of energy and information,

Has one job.

To keep you safe.

That's it.

That's how it's evolved.

And over millions of years,

The brain has grown and adapted to notice anything that might go wrong.

To scan,

Prepare,

And protect.

This is known in neuroscience as the negativity bias.

However,

In the modern world today,

These threats aren't tigers anymore.

They are rejections.

Interpersonal problems.

Uncertainty.

And more.

So the mind keeps scanning and shouting.

Be careful.

Don't mess it up.

What if this means something terrible?

You're not good enough for this.

It's not your fault that you experience automatic thoughts in this way.

When you understand that your mind's negativity bias is not a character flaw.

It's a feature of survival and part of the human condition.

It can help lighten the load that humans place upon themselves.

My dear sweet soul,

As if life wasn't hard enough,

The human mind comes seemingly at just the wrong time.

It's so clumsy,

Desperately trying to control things.

And the inner critic,

That collection of thinking patterns that are critical,

Only knows how to be an inner critic.

It doesn't know a better way of going about this.

Just like a 5 year old with a fixed perspective,

It only has one approach.

It doesn't have awareness of itself.

It doesn't have the capacity for empathy.

But listen closely.

You do.

The human mind is not a friend,

Nor an enemy.

Unhelpful thoughts are here to deepen the connection to yourself.

They are not something to be challenged or suppressed.

Because,

What you resist persists.

When thoughts arise,

Choose the ones that align with you.

If they do not align with you,

Then don't give them your precious energy.

Just as an overactive guardian,

Who just doesn't like the fact that you know what is best for you,

Sometimes,

It will always be trying to gain control of your awareness.

I choose validating self-talk right now.

As I do this,

I disengage from the automatic self-talk,

Which usually doesn't serve me,

And I intentionally engage with validating self-talk,

Which does.

I allow my mind to chatter,

Regardless of the content of the thought,

And come back to the greater intelligence of who I am.

I don't need to fight my mind to work through difficult thoughts.

I can acknowledge my choice.

I can soften my stance,

Knowing that my mind is just doing what it was designed to do.

Thank you,

My dear mind,

For giving me unhelpful thoughts.

What an excellent reference point for me to choose from.

I am empowered,

Every time I refrain from giving each one my energy.

This is always a process.

It is always a practice.

We disconnect,

So that we can reconnect.

And so it is.

And so it is.

These thoughts are echoes,

Not my voice,

And when they come,

I make my choice.

These thoughts are echoes,

Not my voice,

And when they come,

I make my choice.

These thoughts are echoes,

Not my voice,

And when they come,

I make my choice.

These thoughts are echoes,

Not my voice,

And when they come,

I make my choice.

The brain is always trying to protect us and we get stuck in the negativity bias loop. But we can choose what kind of day we want to have and with patience and repetition create new pathways in the brain. Working on it… thanks for the support Reuben πŸ™πŸ»
