Hey,

This is Becca and welcome to a meditation for sleep.

Get comfortable,

Take a deep breath in and a big sigh and begin to really allow your body to relax as much as possible into gravity,

Allowing your shoulders to drop,

Your hips to be heavy,

Your heels heavy,

Allowing every part of your body to just recognize in this moment,

Oh yeah,

There's this thing called gravity and I can actually relax into it and allow what's already here to support me in feeling better.

You might take another deep breath in and a big sigh and just allow any heaviness from your day,

From whatever happened earlier,

Imagine you can just drop that heaviness with gravity,

Like your whole body is a clenched fist and when you unclench what happens?

Whatever you're holding just drops,

So just allowing your day to drop,

Letting it go.

And notice if you're holding on to any problems,

Has your head been spinning around a problem?

Maybe give yourself this space tonight to let that problem go.

We have this phrase,

Popular phrase,

Called give it to God.

Why is it so popular?

And what does that mean for you?

Maybe that resonates with you,

Maybe it doesn't,

But what does that phrase even mean?

In some ways it means,

In this present moment,

Can I let go of my tight grasp on the thing,

On the problem or whatever it is?

Can I be a little bit more okay with the unknown?

And in this moment,

Can I realize that my body does not necessarily need to hold this,

This problem,

This thing,

Whatever it is.

My body does not necessarily need to hold this.

And actually when I give myself the space to not hold it,

When I get space from it,

I get more freedom,

You get more freedom,

And the problem itself gets that freedom.

Freedom from you feeding it with more energy and attention and worry.

So can we just allow now any of that holding on to problems?

I'm not saying,

You know,

Walk around town like you don't gotta pay your taxes one day and just,

You know,

Go outside without pants on,

I'm not saying that.

I'm saying it is one thing to face life and it's another thing to hold everything that you've ever faced in your body.

To keep the problem spinning and spinning and spinning,

Even when you're not in the mode of the solution,

Working on the solution.

It's not necessarily helping.

So let's just take a big sigh together and intend to get space from any problems in this moment.

You are allowed to have that space in this moment.

You're allowed to let go.

If you're holding on to problems that are not your own,

You can let those go as well.

This doesn't mean that you don't care.

It means you're not holding the frequency of the problem in your body.

You're not feeding it your worry.

You're not feeding it your energy.

You're giving it space and you're giving yourself space.

And maybe without holding on to so much weight,

There is more ease in your body and more space to actually be relaxed as you are in this present moment.

The truth is that in this moment,

You can take an inhale and an exhale.

In this moment,

You can open your eyes and see where you are and see that you're safe.

In this moment,

What really exists is the space you are in right now.

And in that space,

In this breath right now,

There is space for you to just relax.

There's space for you to be as you are.

Meditation is just like sleep in that sometimes when we're trying too hard,

The goal is farther away.

So just like when you really,

Really want to get to sleep and you can't sleep and then you start thinking about how much you want to sleep,

Sometimes it keeps you more awake,

Right?

The worrying about not sleeping.

And if I'm trying hard to meditate and it's tensing me up because I really want to meditate correctly,

I'm only getting farther from that goal of meditating,

Which is what is meditating about?

It's about just chilling out where you are.

You already know how to do it.

You don't need any fancy tools.

It's about recognizing you already have the capacity to relax in this moment when you let go of everything that's in the way and it's easier than you think.

Your body naturally,

Intuitively knows how to sleep.

And when we get out of our own way,

The mind naturally,

Intuitively knows how to turn itself off.

So in this moment,

Really allow your body to relax even more into gravity,

To receive it and to release whatever in this moment might be in the way of you feeling at ease.

Visualize your whole body in this huge column of light that stretches up into the cosmos above you and down into the core of the planet beneath you.

In this column of light,

Imagine yourself really receiving in every cell of your body that light that is restoring you,

Nourishing you,

Cleansing you,

So that whatever is not yours to hold in this moment naturally and effortlessly releases out of your space.

You receive and you release.

You receive that light and it allows your body to relax even more into the space you're in,

Into the bed you're in,

Wherever you are,

Receiving and releasing.

The truth is,

No matter how many problems you have right now,

In this tiny little moment we're in right now,

You will not solve them.

It's not going to happen right now.

That can happen later.

And it'll be a quicker journey if you can just let them go right now.

And so you might as well,

Since you know those problems will not be solved in this moment,

You might as well let them all go.

You can pick them up later.

They'll wait for you.

You might as well explore what this moment is like unencumbered by all of that weight.

And sometimes we can be holding on to other people in all sorts of ways.

We can hold on to other people and that might feel heavy in our bodies too.

So you can intend now to just let go of other people and their opinions and their problems and what they would think about that and blah,

Blah,

Blah.

You can pick all that up later too,

But you might as well in this moment explore what it's like to drop all of that.

Without all the weight of problems and people and all sorts of stuff we put on ourselves,

Without all that weight,

Underneath it all,

Freedom is already inside you.

That open space is inside of you always.

And when we drop all that we're carrying,

We can finally get quiet enough to hear it,

Still enough to sense it,

Slow enough to feel it.

In this moment,

You are powerful.

You are powerful enough to decide how to fill the moment,

What to be conscious of,

How to be in your body.

You have a decision and deciding to care for yourself by really giving yourself space is healing for not just you,

But everyone you interact with.

Allow yourself to have truly nourishing rest.

Allow yourself to drop any weight.

Allow your awareness to expand to fill this whole present moment.

Tuning into the lightness of your being.

When we tune into that lightness and that freedom that's always inside of us,

We affirm for ourselves and all beings that that freedom is inside every human,

Every being.

You can be a compassionate person.

You can even pay your taxes and wear pants.

You can be all the things and have this freedom.

It is the birthright of every human being on the planet to feel this freedom.

And what's so incredible is no matter what,

It's always inside of all of us,

Always.

Whether we know it or not,

It's there.

And whenever we remember,

We can rest inside of it.

Give yourself that rest now,

That deepest rest inside your own being.
