It's how we process our emotions that define our experiences.
In this meditation,
We practice having a detached awareness of everyday emotions like love,
Anger,
Sadness and joy as a training ground for the real thing.
And I'm also going to teach you a really cool technique that can help you to deactivate the nervous system when it becomes triggered by an intense emotion.
So,
Let's begin.
Coming up nice and tall in your seat and closing down the eyes.
Becoming aware of the parts of the body that are touching the ground.
Become aware of the crown of the head reaching to the sky.
Notice your body suspended in space.
Relax the shoulders.
Soften and separate the eyebrows.
And become aware of the breath.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Our brains are amazing things and there's part of the brain called the amygdala that is triggered every time we feel a strong emotion.
And the amazing thing is that when we are able to label that emotion,
The amygdala is deactivated and we regain power over our nervous system.
So,
Let's begin.
I'm going to list some emotions and I'd like you to silently repeat the word in your mind and then notice where you feel it resonating in your body.
This is to get you into the habit of doing this when a real emotion is felt.
Let's begin.
Angry.
Now,
Let it go.
Happy.
Happy.
Let it go.
Joy.
Let it go.
Grateful.
Let it go.
Anxious.
Let it go.
Let it go.
Surprise.
Let it go.
Disgust.
Let it go.
Bliss.
Let it go.
Shame.
Let it go.
Envy.
Let it go.
Let it go.
Love.
Allow the feeling of love to saturate your whole body.
Let it permeate to every single cell.
Reconnect with your breath.
Feel the earth beneath you and gently open the eyes.
Keep up the practice of labelling and feeling your emotions in your body and it will give you the power to respond rather than react.
