In this meditation,
We will use sound as a doorway to mindfulness.
So find a comfortable position,
Settling in any way that allows you to arrive into this present moment.
Begin to settle and still.
And then bring your attention to the doorway of the ear.
Begin to notice the words as they arise and as they vanish.
Notice the soft sounds in the room.
Notice more distant sounds,
Maybe sounds that are coming from outside the space that you're in.
Relax into hearing,
Allowing the sounds to come to the doorway of your ear.
Not going and searching for sound,
But receiving the sound.
Allowing the sounds to come and to go.
Much like the breath,
Which arises out of emptiness,
Appears and then vanishes.
So too do sounds appear.
They're experienced for a moment.
And then they pass away.
As you listen,
Relaxed and open,
Let yourself sense or feel in any way that your mind is not limited to the size of your head.
Feel,
Imagine,
Sense.
Your mind is vast like the sky,
As big as this room and even bigger.
The mind open and spacious.
The sounds that you hear these words appearing and disappearing.
Distance sounds.
The sounds in the room.
They all arise and pass like clouds in the vast sky of the mind.
No inside,
No outside.
Just openness and awareness.
Vast like the sky.
Relax into vastness.
Openness without borders.
Rest in the sky like nature of your own mind.
Words appear.
Words disappear.
The sounds in the room arise and pass.
The clouds,
Leaving no trace.
The sounds in the room arise and pass.
The sounds in the room arise and pass.
Sense into the mind as being transparent,
Timeless,
Vast.
Containing all things yet not limited by them.
As wakefulness itself.
Pure and clear.
Rest in the vast space.
Letting each of the sounds appear like a cloud and dissolve.
Leaving the space open and empty.
And as we bring this practice to a close,
Once again bring your attention to the doorway of the ear.
And noticing the sounds that are closest to you.
And when you're ready,
Begin to gently and slowly blink your eyes open.
Without losing that sense of vastness.
The eyes slowly opening.
Gently and gracefully.
Witnessing your surroundings with a wakeful,
Open awareness.
Namaste.
