Grief is not a wound to close but a current to move with. In this guided reflection, you’ll learn to meet your sorrow with mindfulness and compassion — allowing the ache of loss to become an expression of enduring love. Through gentle breathing, presence, and the rhythm of remembrance, this practice helps you soften the weight of what’s gone without letting go of the love that remains. When you are ready, continue the journey in the next track of The Flames We Hide series, exploring how envy and comparison can be transformed into joy and gratitude.

Hey,

Thank you for being here.

If you're listening to this,

Something inside you has been burning quiet.

Maybe grief,

Maybe love that doesn't know where to go anymore.

You're not broken for feeling this,

You're human.

Tonight we're not here to move on,

We're here to let it move.

This is a sit for grief,

The kind that hides behind strong faces and long nights.

We'll breathe,

Feel,

And learn how to let love move through the body again.

Sit how you can,

Breathe easy,

Tall but not stiff,

Unclench the jaw,

Drop the shoulders,

Let the face soften.

Breathe with me in through the nose for four,

Out through the mouth for six.

Slow and clean,

Again in four,

Out six,

Let the body loosen,

A person,

A dream,

A version of you that isn't here anymore.

No need to fight the memory,

Just let it sit beside you.

Where do you feel it right now?

The chest?

Name it softly,

Grief.

You don't have to fix it,

You just have to feel it.

Breathe in four,

Out six,

Inhale,

A wave rises,

It carries love,

Memory,

Ache.

On each exhale,

Let the wave recede,

Not gone,

Just returning to the sea.

Step four,

Coming,

Waves going,

Let each breath carry a piece of the pain home.

In four,

Out six,

Repeat three rounds at your own pace.

If tears come,

Let them come.

If the body trembles,

Let it shake out what has been holding.

That's not weakness,

That's release.

Bring to mind one small reminder,

A photo,

A smell,

Their voice.

Look at it in your mind for a few breaths.

Whisper to yourself,

I can be with this,

A few breaths at a time.

Now the bond,

Not the chain.

Name one thing you loved about them,

A habit,

A value,

A kindness you won't forget.

That's a continuing bond,

Love,

Changing form,

Not this.

Rest with that steady rhythm for a minute.

Grief isn't your enemy,

It's love that has nowhere to land.

The ache you feel proof that something beautiful was real.

Science says face pain with compassion,

And the brain rewires.

Thinking comes back online,

Power says,

I can survive this.

Each breath is a quiet update to the soul,

A new code for peace.

Let's sit together in silence now,

Nothing to do,

Just presence.

Check in,

Where is the wave now?

Higher or just different?

If guilt shows up,

Tell it softly,

Loving deep was never failure.

That's just your nervous system,

Catching its breath.

Before we close,

Place your hand on your heart.

Whisper a small vow in their honor.

Because I loved you,

I'll love the world a little more.

Because I miss you,

I'll show up for the living.

Next time we face comparison and envy,

And learn how to bless instead of burn.

When you're ready,

Lift your gaze.

What you just practiced,

This is how fire becomes light.

Stillness is rebellion.

Peace is within.

Compassion is a weapon.
