Sometimes,
If you're on your own,
One of the hardest things is not having a reassuring voice telling you that things will be okay,
That you will be all right,
And perhaps putting an arm around you.
So,
In these moments,
When we feel the need for that kind of reassurance,
The kind of nervous system regulation and soothing that can come from another presence,
We can offer ourselves a kind of self-soothing.
So you might like to start by allowing the body to soften a little in whatever position you're in right now.
And on the next in-breath,
Perhaps being aware of what's holding you right now in the space.
It may be the chair you're sitting on or the bed you're lying on.
You may like to become aware of the way in which the furniture is held by the floor,
Which is held by the earth,
And that you are truly held in this moment.
You may like to bring your awareness to your breathing,
If that feels okay.
Just following the wave of the breath as it comes in and comes out.
You may like to even hold your own hand or perhaps place one hand on your heart area and one hand resting gently on the belly,
Noticing how the chest and abdomen rise and fall with the breath.
And then perhaps imagining how you might offer reassurance to someone else and imagine that wish for well-being offered to you in return,
A wish for you to be okay,
For you to be happy and at peace.
You may like to imagine that voice whispering in your ear,
It's all going to be okay,
Everything will be all right,
The hand on the heart,
The hand on the belly,
Or perhaps the skin of your fingers against each other.
You will be okay and everything will be all right.
The breath comes in,
The breath goes out,
It's okay.
In this moment,
Can you allow the body to perhaps soften a little in that knowledge as you're held in this moment by the floor,
By gravity,
And by your own wish for well-being for yourself,
Leaning into that sense that everything really will be okay,
Allowing yourself to rest in that knowledge in this moment.
Everything will be all right.
